Okay, I think I have the whole duck, crow, robin, swan and goose thing sorted, but
I have no idea what this is. My continuing avian education…… and the 100% crop for anyone interested…
PeteTheBlokeMemberRobMemberjoe_elwayParticipantRob, did you do anything to remove noise to the image? It looks very smooth, i.e. no feather detail.
RobMemberAidan,
I’m not sure why I lost so much detail, and sharpening hasn’t helped to
bring out any more without creating noise. This was shot at ISO 100, f3.5,
200mm and 1/640 sec. I can only put it down to camera shake and possible
movement of the subject. I’ll have to check some of the other shots I have
and see if they retained any feather detail. I just posted this one because it
was the most pleasing compositionally.Rob.

Very odd. It really looks like Noise Ninja hammered it to death.
Don’t even have Noise Ninja! Come to think of it, I took quite a few shots while
I was walking along following this little one… Perhaps I should always stop before
pressing that shutter… :oops:Rob.
jb7Participant200mm at f/3.5?
on a 2.8 lens?
That’s a nice piece of glass you’ve got there Rob,
is it possible that the focus point is a little in front of the speckled songster? Some of the veg in front of it looks quite sharp in the reduction-
Good comp though, and colour-
and you really must have been up close for such a small bird-
I can see why you’re thinking about a converter,
with that lens it must be quite a temptation-j

It most certainly is Joseph, it certainly is. Thanks for the comments.
Still have to trawl through the rest of the rubbish I shot and see what
I can come up with…Rob.
