Is it not too early for buterfly….?
I like the dof and the framing!
Maybe it is little bit bright or only on my screen?
Noely, your time is here…………..! :)

Its maybe one of those that could have been more like the collector’s cards-
the oblique view means that detail is lost in the ‘eyes’
and those flashes of colour are maybe the most significant part of this butterfly-

Sometimes maybe the subjects should be the important thing,
    and evidence of the photography,
the shallow dof, in this case,
can get in the way a bit-

Looks like a beautiful subject though,
    great colour-

Noelie, the shallow DOF makes for an interesting shot. I like the use of the desaturated border, but I don’t like the way it cuts off the wing at the bottom. Perhaps a way around it is to duplicate the original layer, desaturate the BG layer (double click it to change to Layer 0 first) and the scale down the top colour layer and stroke it. Keeps the wing and gets the desaturated border.

I’d agree with Sean on the border. I shot loads of these last year and the shallow DOF wrecked my head. the attractive thing for me with butterflies is the wings. It’d be great to capture them sharp … I’m no macro expert but I suppose that’d require a fairly short macro lens and a very patient subject?

Cheers….it was actually shot on the zoom end of the Sigma :D Yeah the border cutting the wing is a bummer alright
