ExpresbroParticipant
I rarely post in this section…way too intimidated by the amazing work posted here. But here’s one I took recently in Glendalough. Any advice, hints, comments etc gladly accepted.. :D
andy mcinroyParticipantA splendid vista Expresbro.
There is a pleasing soft quality about it. There would be a temptation to jack up the contrast and saturation here but I personally don’t think it needs it .
Nice one
AndyGrahamBParticipantCracking shot Robbie.
Like Andy said there would be a temptaion to mess with this shot, and it might be worth trying just as an exersise.Personally I would leave it as is. It works really well and has real postcard feel to it.
Well done buddy, you and that Nikon are proving to be a good team.
MartinParticipantVery nice picture has a real postcard feel to it.
I think that maybe the white balance is to high (yellow hint off it). To improve the picture i think it might be missing an ingredient in the form of something strong in the foreground like a tree or nicely shaped rock or something (on the left or right) but having said that its still a nice shot.

Martin, I played with the white balance in Camera Raw so if it’s slightly off it’s my fault. I personally do lean towards warmer tones in my shots usually, so that does sometimes tend to give off a slight yellowish tone. Not to everyone’s taste, but I might grow out of it eventually…
I do agree that it could do with something in the foreground to give it a bit of drama, but there wasn’t anything big enough within view that would suffice at the time.
Thanks for the positive comments as well…might encourage me to go out and buy a decent tripod… :D :D
Graham..me and my Deity are a solid item now …we go everywhere together..hehehe!!
LoGillParticipantI like it Robbie… there is a soft glowing quality to it.. looks great to me.. ;)
L
mgstParticipantRobMemberVery nice landscape Robbie, well composed and exposed with
plenty of detail. As already mentioned, the white balance is off,
giving a yellowish cast, particularly to the green of the trees. This
could be easily corrected by revisiting the original RAW file and
adjusting to a slightly cooler side. I would be tempted to boost
the contrast ever so slightly, but other than that it’s terrific.Rob.

From my own experience of upping the white balance on screen the picture can look warmer and mimic the effect of the 81 and 85 filters which is great. The problem is when you go to print that image these yellows will come through and not look like what they looked like on screen and often produce a not so great print. Be carefull of upping white balance in landscapes:-)
