I’m planning a new panel/ project and decided to fart around with a little flash and natural light as a tester ..
C&C welcome

fstop89564ParticipantgerardkParticipantI like it too – thats a very captivating look & it really holds the attention. The processing is excellent too.
AllinthemindParticipantreally well balanced. The composition centres interest on your face as does your lighting. There is an air of mystery about the expression that is appealing..
So I like it :) hehe

GrahamBParticipantJob well done Lorainne, really very nice.

Cheers Gerard.. not alot of mystery in the processing really .. just getting rid of a few pimples and wrinkles ;) coversion and sharpening :D

I hope I can replicate the setup again when I need it .. Glad you like it :)

That was my original thought – but I did this in the kitchen .. I need a black sheet or two for my idea… and maybe another flash for hairlight ?? Hmmmmm
Thanks for the comments

Not Pete the blokeParticipantWell done Lorraine – this shot has real appeal/imapct. Square composition is something that my pro friend Louis McCullagh uses a lot. The compsotion, expression, and square crop just seem to work……..dont ask me to explain… Maybe you should explain it to us, as you were astute enough to produce it this way in the first place.
Ross
David_SParticipantreally really like this .. it has an uncontrived honesty about it that makes it work as a shot .. the composition and expression are both perfect.
and must say i completely disagree with the black background idea :-) would be rubbish .. lol … the white background completely makes the shot for me
*edit* joking aside :-) .. what i mean by that is in my opinion the white background gives it the starkness that accentuates the vulnerability which, for me at least, is a large part of what makes this shot so good
d
markdonParticipanti like it to, did you only take one! like the light in your eyes ,well done ,by the look of this you should do a lot more of the farting around.
ExpresbroParticipantThis is a really hypnotic looking shot to me. Simple and very effective, just draws you in and doesn’t want to release your attention. I find myself getting lost in the eyes.
Yeah….I like it
carlParticipantLorraine,
I absolutely love that composition in the square. Great expression, there is something I like about the tension to it. My only gripe with this and it is very small, is the conversion or treatment to the skin tones and that is, its very slightly blotchy. Be very careful though cos I love what you have done with the shadow tones. Excellent!seanmcfotoMemberNow if only I was that pretty, I’d fart around with more self portraits..
Then again I might anyhow ;)RobMemberLoGirl this is stunning.
There is always the danger of ending up with a
pretentious result with this type of thing, but you’ve
avoided that completely. There is an honesty and
integrity to this shot that makes it stand out from
others I’ve seen.Very courageous, with that head on composition. As Si
already mentioned, there is an air of mystery about
the expression, also a vulnerability that is most appealing.
The eyes have it all.Overall, fantastic composition, exposure, conversion and
concept… oh yes, and model. An image that would work
well in any form, colour, black and white, or even cross
processed.Damn good work.
Rob.
LoGillParticipantThanks so much for the feedback everyone.. I appreciate it alot.
Ross – I didn’t have any plan in constructing the image I just played around with it untill it “felt” right ? I know thats completely unhelpful.. Sorry ! I checked out your friend Louis website.. very talented! lots of inspiring work there .
DaveS – I’m glad you like it.. I agree with you that the black background may not be as effective for this shot. But maybe next time ;)
Mark – Thanks.. I took alot of shots and dumped alot too. I kept a few in this and in other set-ups.. but this one was closest to the look I wanted.. I may have to fart around again before getting it right though .. so watch this space ;)
Robbie – ;) Cheers !
Carl – I agree with you about the perceived tension in the image, i see that too and find it interesting. In terms of the skin .. well yes you are absolutely right  – other than heavy eye makeup I wasn’t wearing any .. so I’d probably opt for some light foundation when I start shooting my panel . I’m not a fan of heavy “photox” processing and I wanted it to look imperfect in a way (lucky for me ;) ) .. so if you have any PS tips in this regard that would help balance that – I’d love to hear them. Thanks again !
Sean – Thanks.. I’m much more comfortable on the other side of the camera and plan on staying there … ;) but with no alternative and a bit of inspiration this was what happened :) You might as well give it a go ;)
Rob – :D Thanks so much .. thats very high praise. I’m really looking forward to taking this project further.. :D
Thanks again everyone !!

PoeticJusticeMemberLoGill this photo is a beaut
And says so much e’en though it’s mute
I wonder if the positioning in the frame
Of the model (I don’t know her name)
Was caused by your failure to look through the viewfinder?
In spite of which the picture’s a blinder.
I’d have wiped the chocolate off her lips
And held the hair on the left with clips
Apart from that I’m very impressed
Of pics I’ve seen it’s one of the best
