Music taste

FlipflipParticipant
Not that I judge anyone by their taste in music, but Im just curious as to what most people here listen to.
What are yere fav artists or bands or whatever. And if ye have any great music to share please do.
Ill start that off by suggesting that everyone download the song Thou Shalt Always Kill by Dan Le Sac vs. Scroobius Pip.
The lyrics are so refreshing. (vid here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yoN6XfyQsr4)As for my music taste, I will honestly listen to anything. Pearl Jam are, and have been for quite some time, my favourite band. After that anything goes, The Frames, Damien Rice, Dextro, Chemical Brothers, DJ Shadow, etc etc.
So what about the rest of ye?
shutterbugParticipantMy most favourite piece of music since the age of 5 or 6 is
the 1812 overture ………dont ask me why it just had me riveted
to the spot and still does to this day. But I will listen to most music
depending on my mood.steelydanParticipantMusical Tastes vary .. i will listen to anything that sounds good to my ear.
Steely Dan, The Eagles, James Taylor,Damien Rice,Bob Dylan, Artic Monkeys,Athlete,Don Mescall,Jack L The list goes on and on.Just bought my tickets for The Police in Croke Park, also bought my tickets for Steely Dan In Birmingham UK
Have over 700 CD’s and a Ton of MP3’s
ExpresbroParticipantHard one to finger for me too. Have very varied musical taste as I’ve been listening to and been interested in music since i was about 9 years of age…so that’s right back to the mid seventies. I find something to like about most styles of music and listen regularly to Rock, Jazz, Classical, Swing, Country.whatever. As long as it has soul and emotion. Biggest hates are souless pop music and the ever whining executives of the big music companies.
Favourite bands/Artists right now are Radiohead, Thom York, The Beatles (been a fan most of my life), Damien Rice and Lisa Hannigan, John Martyn, Nick Cave, Kings of Leon, Emmylou Harris, Nanci Griffith. Manic Street Preachers, Elvis Costello, Crowded House..and on and on and on.. :D :D
richiehatchMemberMe too…. very varied… but I do particularly like weird slow electronic stuff… Board of Canada are amazing… if ye havent heard em ye should try some of their stuff… also love easy electronic stuff like Air, Zero 7, Lemon Jelly, Bent, Sia and the like… then Jeff Buckley, Damien Rice when i am feelin moody..! Also I love the auld 80’s shite every now and again…! Love Radioheads electronic albums too…! That just about covers everything…!

joe_elwayParticipant1) Anything that doesn’t have some rapper I have never heard of (or want to) being “featured”. Paula Abdul has a lot to answer for
2) Dave Fanning must never have reffered to it as being “Fab”. That goes for that Dunne fella on Today FM too.Today, I was mostly listening to the album with this on it:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vfLuUsxrhiwRobMemberTom Waits, Stevie Wonder, John Martyn, Nat King Cole, Steely Dan (as long as Walter Becker
sticks to bass and never picks up a guitar again!), Norah Jones, Beethoven (beats the pants of Mozart!), Arlo Guthrie,
Captain Beefheart, Bach, Tony Bennett, Sheryl Crow (what she’s doing now), Chet Atkins, James Taylor, Chick Corea,
Michel Camilo, Paul Carrack, Diana Krall, Michael McDonald…
Basically, musicians who know music and can adapt, can play anything and own it.
Can’t stand one-trick ponies. It shows conceitedness and a distinct lack of ambition…Rob.
earthairfireParticipantI have the most random and eclectic taste in music, and it totally depends on my location, and my mood.
In the house, relaxing:
Nitin Sawhney, Zero 7, Royksopp, Katie Havnevik, Massive Attack, Bird York. Tunes and vocals that touch your soul, mixed up with a large scoop of chillout on the side
Out on the tiles:
Steve Edwards, Darren Emerson, and anything else that can generally be described as dirty, filthy electro tech house. None of this commercialised trash, though, which rules out most bars and clubs in Ireland!
On the odd occasion, I’ll be found listening to anything from Jazz, through to punk, through to the likes of crowded house, and all the way back to elton john and a side portion of Jools Holland and his band. Well – I did say I had eclectic taste!

GCPParticipantI like many types of music and listen to what may sound strange to many. I love American country and in particular some of the older stuff. Would have much of the “rebel” music of Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson, Gram Parsons, Emmylou Harris, Arlo Guthrie, etc which gave two fingers to the big record producers. Some of the modern country artists that I like would be Hal Ketchum, Ralph Stanley, Shelby Lynn, Kelly Lang, Keith Whitley, Ronnie Milsap, etc. I also love Big Band stuff like Glenn Miller, Syd Lawrence, Mike Morton, etc. I would have to say my favourite would have to be James Last as I have a real love for the Trumpet sound. Also Last’s style is so varied and within his band are instruments that would not be normal to the big band era. I’m always amazed by his production style and the way he marries the instruments and harmonies. It must be wonderful to be able to write scores for such a variety of instrumentation. Other artists in this style that I like also are Bert Kaempfert and Eddie Calvert. I am also a great fan of the steel guitar and such artistis and Lloyd Green, Buddy Emmons would be on my list there as well as my good friend in Nottingham, Sara Jorey, who is not just a beautiful lady but an exceptionally tallented steel and lead guitarist.
I love all the 60’s & 70’s music and groups from that era – Beatles, – Creedance Clearwater Revival, – Crosbie, Stills, Nash & Young, – Bee Gees, – Animals, – etc, etc.
From the sort of Folk side I like Donovan, Ralph McTell, Pete Seager and the unique voice of Roger Whittaker. Being a piano player myself I love the music of such players as Richard Clayderman, Roger Williams, Frank Mills, etc. There are many more but this gives a snapshot of the weird tastes of GCP…LOL

Flavour of the month for me is going to have to be Dolores O’Riordan. I can’t wait to get my hands on her first solo album when it’s released next month!

John Martyn died today. I was sure someone else mentioned him here, but I can’t find the thread.
DakyParticipantLike most people here my tastes are varied, usually have Lyric on the radio in the car but at the moment have Thin Lizzy in the CD player.
guthrijParticipantJohn Martyn was one of my guitar heros. Sad news on his web site today.
