Well, my head seems to be in strange place photography wise the last few days
and the results, well they seem to be little off to say the least.
I’m not really sure what i was thinking when i did this one, so be gentle.DenverDollParticipantGraham!
Wow..glad I got home in time to see this one!
It’s really fantastic..I think you’ve found your niche dear.
At least you’ve found my niche..or something like that
This totally works for me.Not Pete the blokeParticipantSomehow I get the feeling that whoever he is, he will like this one printed. The tattoos and his overall appearance suggest that a straight portrait might not be the way to go ………full marks for matching subject with finish from me.

I’m not sure what this means
Not Pete the blokeParticipantAll I mean by a ‘straight portrait’ is a simple black&white photograph?? – ie none of the red overlay/textures/noise/mood etc.
GrahamBParticipantI get ye. I tried a few different edits on this and none really seemed to work except this one.
One of the edits was a straight black and white and yes it did look off.
ThanksLoGillParticipantThe face downwards adds mood and for me also mirrors the angle of your arm. the layers of toning and texture add depth.
I like it Graham :)

Mr.HParticipantHi Graham,
I’m no expert in portraits but have come back to this a few times now so it warrants a comment. I like it. It is a very powerful and creative shot. Wouldn’t be one for my wall, but can easily imagine it as an album, or book cover. How did you get the texture on there? From a critical point of view, it may have been better to get the tattoo on the right fully in the shot, but i appreciate that may meant making the subject a little off centre which would lose impact.
I hope you take my last comment in the manner it is intended – ever since I saw this earlier today I’ve had the oompa-loompa song going around my head!

I love it.
I got the texture by first finishing the original as best i can and then i started to add layer after layer
of a stock rust shot i have. I think there was a twelve layers after all then merge them all into one layer
then repeated the process again. During the process I was changing opacity and erasing certain areas that I wanted
less rust and more ME.Not Pete the blokeParticipantMore ME? Dont tell me this is a self portrait……??
Best lookin’ accounatnt I ever saw.GrahamBParticipantYes ross. I’m afraid that is me. Again. I seem to be the only person that will sit still for portrait practice. Oh and i’m not accountant. The signature doesn’t sound the same when i use senior technical support desk engineer.
Not Pete the blokeParticipant:lol: I assumed from your signature that you were a rich accountant I’m afraid……you’ve just gone up in my estimation.
earthairfireParticipantAfraid I’m gonna go against the grain here, Graham…
I like the shot, and the composition (although would have preferred the shoulders not to have been cropped) BUT for me I’m not a fan of the texture – I think a simply lit B&W would have been my choice for the subject.
As far as the book cover comment goes, then yes I’d agree, but for me I like photos I could picture on my wall, and the texture just doesn’t do it for me…
I know you can take it so I hope you don’t object to the honest feedback!

Always happy to go up in someones estimation Ross
Tim – Honest feedback is important, I would never be offended if someone voices their opinion.
I agree that the texture is a lot to take in and you are right the crop could be better. Keep the honesty
coming Tim.
Now to search for all Tims posting and roast them ( only joking  )For those who hate the texture – what about this one – it’s DARK
