Bluebells

Taken last night on a very short trip to my local forest. Taken on quite a steep slope hence why the bluebells are sloping from right to left. The angle & lean of the trees might not be to everyone’s liking, but I just wanted a different angle from what I’m used to taking. I shot this from quite low to the ground with a 17mm and pointed the lens right up into the trees, trying to show how small the bluebells are in comparison with the tall trees looming over them.

    Thanks for looking.

*jaw drops* ….. I think you nailed it. Don’t suppose there is much chance of these looking so good in 3 weeks when I get back lol?

    Cheers Steve.
Wouldn’t be overly worried – they could be! Checked the EXIF info on the shots I took last year, and the date was 21 May! So you might still be in luck! lol

Oh that’s nice! I do like the converging verticals, it’s different, and I think it works brilliantly

    Yes, very good indeed.

    The colour is just superb.

I’ll be heading over to Portglenone next Thursday Steven if you fancy a repeat visit.

This is great Steven. A slightly different perspective on the traditional bluebell shot which is good.

I must say that your consistency in somewhat disturbing.

Andy – yes, I was planning on going back so that would be good. Hopefully my mate Phil will also get too. We’ll have to arrange something nearer the time.

Yeah, I just thought sod it, I’ll try something different as nearly all my bluebell shots look the same. Sometimes the diff shot will work, sometimes not.

Gotta agree. Really beautiful shot, great perspective and composition.

    how can I say this?

Sorry Steven, but I just don’t get this one. Something about it just
doesn’t work for me. It’s not the converging verticals or the perspective.
It’s not the colours, although to my eye they do seem a little oversaturated
and on the cusp of appearing cartoonish.

You have recently posted some stunning images, but I’m afraid I find this
one, well, bland I suppose. Would you be mightily offended if I said boring?

Perhaps it’s something to do with the light. I don’t have the technical knowledge
to explain myself very well, but there’s something very one dimensional here,
a lack of depth, of texture, of an interesting focal point or focal points…

I may be completely out of order in saying this, and I certainly don’t mean to
insult you in any way, but if I saw this on my camera’s LCD I’d probably
delete it before it ever got a chance to end up on the hard drive of my
computer. Then again, what do I know…

    Sorry Steven, not for me…

    Rob.

Lovely colours and I love the converging trees. Great.

Steven, you’ve given me food for thought. I’ve just ordered some Velvia slide so once I get that I’ll be heading down there to get a shot for next year’s module, which has to be done on colour film. As it’s only 5-6mile up the road from me it’d be a shame not to visit.

At the risk of incurring the wrath of the moderators – surely a forumite can dislike a photo without so much trepidation? After all, Rob, you offered plenty of valid reasons for your feelings. Perhaps we’ve all become a bit too too nice around here.

For me, I think this would have worked better if you’d got right on the floor so that the first bluebells actually have detail. Still, I like the shot and it’s definitely a different approach to bluebells. Well done.

I’m off to find some really bad pics to diss in a very blunt manner.
