Just need to share the pain…

My dodgy old Canon 10D (3 years old) is off to Dublin for a repair estimate. They tell me it could be at least 4 weeks to get an estimate. And then I have to send the estimate to the warranty people, who will take 2 to 3 weeks to approve the repairs, or not. And then, if it’s fixable, the repairs begin. No dig-camera for two to three months.

On the plus side, I have plenty of film and film cameras to keep me going.

On the minus side, I will miss my baby!

No point whining now I suppose… I could hear in a month that it’s only good as a paperweight…. Then I’ll really be crying.

    Sniff.

What happened your 10D. I still have mine as a backup camera so I’m curious to find out what might happen to it in the future as it ages!

About a month back stopped working in manual — automatically switches to A-DEP. At first I thought I’d accidentally reset something in the custom functions, but cleared those out to factory default and can’t get my fully manual controls back. I worked around it for a month… using shutter priority, etc. but it doesn’t work very well for me. I’m used to working all manual – my thought process, everything is much slower on the other settings. I’m hoping it’s just a “spring loose” or something… not the beginning of total electrical malfunction.

It’s heavily used…so something was due to give out I suppose. Hooray for the extended warranty as I haven’t really budgeted for an upgrade this year and am trying to suck another year out of this beast!

Of course, it’s an excuse to window shop. … As if…

thanks for the info on that place. i will file it away for future reference. until recently i lived in nyc – so i was used to popping in to a shop whenever i needed equipment, info, advice, a quick clean, what have you.

it’s under warranty… so the cost isn’t really an issue (hope i didn’t jinx myself by saying that)… but it’s just going to take ages and ages. but. everything is for a reason so maybe i’m supposed to slow down, do some film, practice focusing, acceptable DOF and so on.
