Hi all
Iv been looking at the site for weeks now and finally took the plunge and joined. Im new to photography and only have a bridge SLR ( on loan ) and I know nothing about Photoshop. I really hope to get a critique from some of you when I post cos I need to learn much more before I buy my first SLR. Ill post as soon as I figure out how to.

Welcome aboard Cora…my advice is to post lots of shots and look at loads of others on here. Pay attention to the composition and the lighting of the different shots and you’ll soon see things that make more sense to you.
I started here only about 6 months ago and used a bridge camera (Fujifilm S5600) for the first 4 months or so before taking the plunge and buying a Nikon D80.
If you can as well, try and come along to some of the shooting days that we have quite regularly and you’ll pick up even more by watching how the more experienced shooters get their shots.
Ask questions too… don’t be afraid to do that…we’re a nice bunch here and you’ll generally find someone who can answer whatever questions you have….sometimes even non photography related questions like flower arranging and cookery… :wink:
Most of all…have fun…it’s an enjoyable hobby :D

8)Welcome Cora. Take your time learning. I’d suggest learning the basics first before jumping into an SLR. I had mine set on A thinking it was for Automatic for the first few days. And it would be wise to avoid Photoshop initially. I rely on it (and Paint Shop Pro) way too much and I need to back away. 4 months ago I had a Nikon coolpix 5mp point and shoot. I’m no expert now but I know what I’m looking at when these guys and gals post images for C&C (I didn’t know what this was either at first).
So sit back and enjoy the ride. It’ll be fun.
