I took a bus into town the other day,
and was rewarded with a bit of a session-Nice kids,
I told them I’d put a pic up here,
so here it is-j
LoGillParticipantNot the typical scene I recall from the top deck of the number 27 let me tell you … it was usuall something other than a session they were cooking up ..
What a range of different little scenes in the image – the girls chatting away – wonder what they are talking about :) The three guys focused on the music.. the other guy on the back seat eyes closed seems lost in something .. could be the music.. and .. is that joe elway (Aidan) on the right ;)
Lovely conversion and loads for the eye to travel though … almost makes me want to take the bus … (almost!) I like it very much :)L
DenverDollParticipantI really like this.
It’s charming and a very unique and delightful perspective of Dublin itself. Very enjoyable :)
Thank you for converting. Those psychadelic bus seats remind me of a carnival on speed.
Lorraine spotted Aidan right before I did
RobMemberEverything LoGirl said. Love the crop too – still hung up
on that 2X1 format.
The 27? Should’ve seen the 27B. And just who is that
giant woman looking in the back window…Rob.
jb7ParticipantThanks for the comments everyone-
You’re right,
it was the bus seats that decided the conversion-Like Auntie’s Outfits at weddings,
some things demand conversions-j
ThorstenMemberThere’s a lot going on here to look at. It certainly held my interest longer than a lot of other images. Then, the longer I looked at it the more I began seeing two distinct images. If you cut it right down the middle, just to the left of the fiddle/violin player, you end up with two very different, albeit still very interesting images. Good stuff!
PippateeMemberI agree with all of the above, this is quite engaging….love the scene altogether!!
Great idea to convert too…I cant imagine this having the same impact in colour…
This wouldn’t be on the Cromwellsfort road by any chance?
jb7ParticipantThanks Gentlemen-
Thorsten, you’ve rumbled me-
there are splits all over the place,
horizontal as well as vertical-
especially in some of these 2×1 pictures-I wouldn’t necessarily agree that they could stand alone as two distinct pictures though,
more that they are distinct halves of the same scene-Thanks Pipatee, no, not Cromwellsfort,
Wainsfort, coming up to the KCR, going north-Glad you like it-
I did ask if I could take pictures,
and they didn’t mind at all-Though it took about 20 shots before they relaxed enough,
and stopped looking into the camera-
The boys especially,
the girls seemed to know not to look-This one is about the best of the series, overall-
Thanks again-
j
Jay KingParticipantWouldn’t have noticed the splits until mentioned… although I did think that some parts needed a slight rotation for some reason. And maybe the entire image mightn’t suffer from a small clockwise rotation?
It’s a nice scene and well captured – as Lorraine and Rob said I’d be more used to the smoky and loud 27B!
ExpresbroParticipantYes..very civilised crowd on the 54A altogether…not sure I’d risk taking out my camera on the 27 or the A or B variety… different kind of fiddling usually going on at the back as Lorraine hinted:wink:
Great shot Joseph…I love these type of shots…snapshots of everyday life with lots going on. I think the two girls in the left foreground really make it for me.
Might make an idea for a series of black and whites actually. Life upstairs on a bus. Would have been better back in the bad old days when there was usually a cloud of smoke hanging over everyone’s heads…
EddieParticipantGreat image, really holds your attention as you wander from person to person, super.
jb7ParticipantThanks again guys-
Jay, I see what you’re saying,
it may, or it may not need the rotation-
It is a bus, and they do bounce around a bit-Hard enough to take a picture,
but probably even harder to play the fiddle-I think the bit of rotation is ok-
this is one interior where I’m happy to let the verticals go-Robbie, Rob suggested a project a while back,
to photograph the same scene through the seasons-
Although I’m sure he meant, or implied, a natural scene,
my first reaction, for some reason, was to think about photographing the interior of a bus-odd that- but I think it would be a good one,
especially for someone who used a bus regularly-
Though I can’t imagine the early morning commuting crowd being very co-operative-Unless you want to rent some musicians-
Thanks Eddie- glad you like it-
it does kinda keep your attention within the frame, I find-
which can’t be bad really-j

Ah… the number 27… I wouldn’t have the neck to take someone’s photo on a bus.
Class image btw.

I wouldn’t usually-
Though I always have this death-wish like temptation-It is very intrusive,
and I wouldn’t like it myself,
but in this case, I think everyone realized that it was an unusual little scene,
and didn’t mind when I asked them.It probably helped that they were younger,
and treated the bus more like an extension of their schoolday milieu,
rather than hardened commuters cocooned in their daily drudge. Thanks for the comments Brian and John,
glad you like it-j
