I am currently thinking of buying a lens to cover the range beyond that of my 18-55 mm kit lens. I was thinking of the AF-S DX VR Zoom-Nikkor 55-200mm f/4-5.6G IF-ED. I think it is fairly new out. Does anyone have it and what do you think of it.
I also had a look at the AF-S DX VR Zoom-Nikkor 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6G IF-ED. A bit expensive, not sure would I get the value out of it.
The 18-200mm is supposed to be a super lens (VR on it also). You could try to trade in the 18-55 against it to lower the cost and give you the range your looking for. No point having the 18-55 anymore if you have the 18-200, thats what what i would do but it all depends on what you can afford

It is a great lens. It’s hardly off my D200. Another thing about it is that you don’t have 2 lenses covering the same zoom length of the 18-200. No lens changing means no risk of dirt on the sensor,
Lads, Thanks for the reply. I had originally been thinking of the 18 to 200 mm and have saved up my few ? with a view to buying this. I am on the point of buying now and was having a look at all of the options.
Not having to have two lenses to cover the full range from 18 to 200 is indeed a huge advantage. I must have a look into the possibility of trading in my 18 to 55 mm.
Thanks for the advise,
Regards,
John.
