bethParticipant
this is a black crowned night heron and 2 baby gators about a year apart in age. theres a third baby gator at the bottom of the log just outside the frame on the right. black crowned night herons have been known to have a gator or two for lunch. this one was in full stalking mode and the gators just sat there and watched him. the boat i was on sat around for 10 minutes hoping to catch the final showdown, but we needed to get back to the docks..
bethAlan RossiterParticipantShame on you, beth. That heron has a touch of red eye  .
It’s an interesting picture with an interesting story. Pity you couldn’t have cought the final onslaught. I’ve never seen a croc on the receiving end.
I think you’ve succeeded in avoiding the blow out on the whites in the heron too given the foreground shadows dominating the picture. Althought I have to say the foreground this side of the log is a little distracting. A panoramic view may suit better? Just a suggestion.
Alan.

What? The heron would eat gators? Jaysus, what’s wrong with the world?
lol, only in florida can herons and snakes take on gators and expect to win. they grow their animals screwy down there. not to mention the 5’7″ tall mouse that lives in a palace with his girlfriend mouse and dog… :D

beth:o The sun must be strong there this time of year…
…sorry, just copped that one. Duh! It’s past my bedtime.
Alan.
RavenAshMemberGreat shot Beth. On seeing this pic though I was drawn straight to the red eye of the Heron.
ExpresbroParticipantI’m guessing the story might be a little different in a year or two….hehehe!! Be Mr. Heron looking over his shoulder…
Interesting shot Beth….lots to keep your interest.
bethParticipantthanks everyone.
irishwonkafan: lol
ravenash: their eyes are really that color, like glowing rubies.
expressbro: they might not have to worry about herons in another year or two, but the anacondas in the everglades will still make short work of them.
bethbethParticipantsorry it took me awhile to get this cropped and back up.. i think irishwonkafan had the right idea about the crop. thanks again for the suggestion!
bethDenverDollParticipantOh this is great this way!
