I’m thinking of getting the Nikkor 85mm 1.8D-
does anyone us it,
and can anyone with experience of the value of a pound
make a credible case for the 1.4?Well apart from the diaphragm,
that looks nice-
and the extra speed-Thanks-

KPMParticipantJB,
see my related post https://www.photographyireland.net/viewtopic.php?t=6987
The honeymoon period is not over. Have used it for a couple of schools communion / confirmation sittings as well as during a couple of weddings (candid close up shots as well as head & shoulder portraits) and I still love it. Thought long & hard about the 1.4 which by all accounts is stunning, but the extra cash for an extra stop was a bit much for me.
The only pain in the ase is the screw on metallic lens hood which I never use.
Apart from full length shots, for portrait photography this is the lens for me, although I also like the 50mm 1.8.

Alan RossiterParticipantKevin,
Are you in a position to post examples of its capabilities yet? It’s always a swaying factor in a decision to see what can be done.
Alan.
jb7ParticipantThanks Kevin,
I remember you posting that now-Alan has a point though,
though I wouldn’t have brought it up myself :DI have a 50 1.2 AIS,
but I prefer a little distance for taking pictures of people-
though I take your point that its good for couples-j
KPMParticipantAs most of the last few weeks work is still ongoing I have not asked for permission to use images online etc.
I do however have a couple of shots of my own kids, and one of a neighbours which I will post tomorrow.
Don’t want to get caught up on the use of images etc…..

jb7ParticipantThanks Kevin,
look forward to that-
I’m particularly interested in the diaphragm,
and how it renders out of focus highlights,
but I’d be interested to see whatever you’ve got-j
