Hi there
WE have decided to purchase the 400D. Having looked around buying it with the 18-55mm lens kit as opposed to just the body seems a better deal. WE will play around with that lense for a while before deciding what we really want in that deparment.
Looking at the price online and from the UK, jessops, dixons, currys, warehouseexpress.co.uk. they all come out almost exactly the same at circa 710 Euro excluding postage. Didnt think id get it anyway close to that here as most of the dedicated camera shops seem to have it at over 900 euro.
However jessops in Dublin have it for 730 euro which if you take into account postage and that is almost the same as getting it on the net so I will probably go for this and spend the moeny in this country.
I still have to contact Dixons in cork (where I live) and am hoping to save the trip to dublin by getting it at a similar price there.Any other recommendations of stores I should check? Also surely the dedicated camera shops cant be shifting many at 900 euro if they are available for considerably less?
Madra RuaParticipantSounds like a good price to me (and a nice camera).
I did a quick check on a German price checker and the cheapest I could find for the kit there is 658,- + p&p.
So, considered that you can just walk back into Jessops if something is wrong I’d say go for it.PippateeMemberDixons in the Square have it for ?699 I’m sure…try Argos as well…I cant put my hand to a catalogue though…
I bought my 400d from Digital Rev – Camera, Lens and 430ex speedlight flash for around ?850 including duty and delivery…
munsterman28ParticipantJes
Just had a quick look on digital rev and they have the 18-55mm lens kit for 554 euro, thats very very good.
Pippatee you dealt with them before?
PippateeMemberI did indeed….absolutely first-class company to deal with…I would buy everything from them….
you better check with them though….they were having trouble shipping to Ireland because of our WEE regulations….I think you can still buy from their EBay store,
bear in mind that you will have to pay duty on that price and delivery….
joe_elwayParticipantBuddy of mine bought it from digitalwonderworld.de around XMas. Saved a bundle. Cost around 700 incl the kit lens.

i know what you mean. It’s hard to get the body only from the big chains with cheeper prices. If you’d like a recomendation for an alternative to the kit lens or as a second lens then take a look at the Canon 50mm f2.8 mk II
munsterman28ParticipantDixons and currys in cork have it for 799 euro.
Although this is 70 euro more expensive than jessops in dublin and 90 euro more expensive than the UK or net it will save me trekking to dublin and sitting in traffic to get it. Thats worth 70 euro of anyones money, plus if anything happens im close to where I bought it. Will start to play around with it and decide on lenses in a few weeks.
joe_elwayParticipantRemember there’s an ?85 cash back offer for the 400D in Ireland until August.

Went to dixons to buy it and was happy to pay 799 as opposed to travel to dublin to get it 70yoyo cheaper. Luckily I spotted dixons price promise sandwich board as I was strolling round the store. Basically it said they would match any lower price. I was directed to the manager and after some fumbling she said it was only if it was within 10 miles, which is a crock. I pushed her on it but she wasnt budging, until I mentioned false advertising and then she changed her tune. She said if I could prove it was 729 in jessops in dublin she would match it. Jessops was closed when I rang but went back today and got it for 729.
So the upshot is dixons will do it for 729 aswell.
They did have the sandwich board hidden away in a corner today though
PixelleMemberJust read this now. I believe Jessops are withdrawing from Dublin. Can anyone confirm/deny this?

Fair play to you Munsterman!
It’s unbelievable what shops try to get away with these days and I congratulate anyone who stands up to them and demands their right.munsterman28 wrote:

They have a “sale” on at the moment. I reckon if they do close then it won’t be a big loss. When I was shopping for aflash they were easily the most expensive outlet … 100 more then Berminghams and 60 odd more than Conns.
munsterman28ParticipantI still can’t believe that a lot of the specialist photography shops are charging in excess of 900 euro for the 400D………..and getting away with it
