The friendly staff at the Battle of Boyne site near Drogheda demonstrating real weaponry from 1688. The free guided tour is only 30 mins or so, but really informative.
I have dozens of shots from the demo, but selected this one for the (slight) eye contact. Overexposed?
Thanks!
joe_elwayParticipantThe exposure seems fine to me. The eyes being shielded by the sliding glasses might be a problem? I’m not crazy about how he’s gently holding the gun…. to me he should be holding on to that thing like a Marine …. you know like it’s his only way to live. He seems to be too gentle with it, even if he is relaxed.
Anyway, that’s my 2 cents in the jar :)

Maybe that’s what the world has been waiting for: gentle soldiers.
positronMemberThanks Aidan, you are right about the eyes / specs.
Pete, soldiers are no good now, they already have drones deployed out in the field now and soon you would read some where.. “skynet become self aware at 2:17am and soon declared war on humankind…”

It’s a good job we’ve all seen Terminator – we know what to expect.

Alan RossiterParticipantAwww…did you wake him, god bless.
I’ve looked at this several times and I think it could do with a little less saturation – just a small bit. I tend to oversaturate but I’ve had to pull back a bit recently. What I tend to do is push it to where I like…and then back a little.
I must look out for these events. Aidan pointed one out in Wexford over the June bank holiday but the weather was the type you wouldn’t put a milk bottle out in. Some great opportunities, I’m sure.

positronMemberThanks Alan, I am still not a 100% with saturation and other levels – looking at Lighroom dev history, this is what I did to the original.
crop rectagle
exposure -0.33
contrast +41
black clipping -15
highlight recovery +100Does black clipping affect saturation? Err, is that stupid question (probably.. it might be the contrast!)? Not sure if this is important but this was with 50mm at f/2.8, ISO 100, AWB, Cloud cover.
LucParticipantI agree for the comment about the eyes and the glasses, but, well, it is difficult to ask the gentleman to move them a bit higher on his nose.
Good exposure and sharpness, but the colours are too vivid in my opinion. Especially for that type of pictures; that does not look “ancient”.
Maybe some “blurry BW” would be nice.
