Just to let you all know the import duty on camera gear from Hong Kong is 6.7% plus vat at 21%. The postage will also be liable for this.
So an ?800 lens will cost ?1033 not taking postage into account

Nothing  I was just making enquiries………OK…I bought a Bigma, but not online, in town.

You bought a Bigma?? Nice job!! Now, try UR Galaxy on Ebay. They supply NIkon and Canon Bigmas for around E750, postage around E60 and they guarantee Vat & Duty free transactions. There’s an invoice that shows this was a repaired or returned under warranty item from the UK. I bought a 10-20mm and have a 24-70mm f2.8 on the way. Pity you didn’t say earlier… :(

Just bought an ST-E2 on Sunday from one of the usual EBay HK based sites. Cost was around 110 plus post. Think they roll in at 220-250 in Ireland. Even if I get hit for VAT and duty I’ll likely have saved money … and not had to wait until some warehouse in Holland gets their act in order.

I came across this crowd while browsing about on EBay today. Emilyandlily. They’re a US based company with a warehouse in the UK. Looks like US prices. I’m NOT vouching for them … just throwing the name out there. Be curious to see what people’s experiences have been, if any.

A friend of mine bought a compact Kodak digital camera from them. He had no problems.

Digital cameras imported from third countries are not liable to Customs Duty but are liable to
Vat at 21%. lenses are a differerent story they are laible to 6.7% Duty which is added to the
value of the goods + the freight or postsge and then you pay vat at 21% on the lot.
