Oystercatchers over Wexford
-
Alan RossiterParticipant
I took this from Rosslare Strand about 1 month ago. Wexford Harbour is about 5 miles in a straight line from where it was taken and this was taken at full zoom with the Bigma. I wanted to get the sunlight catching the oystercatchers turning to make the image. I wasn’t happy with the colour finish so I tried to make it old style. Some items were ommited such as the fishermans life jacket and outboard engine as well as 2 cranes over Wexford that are involved in the building of the new Theatre Royal.
C&C welcome.
Alan.
SteveDParticipantAlan,
THis is a very nice image, and I like the toning. I would maybe consider burning the man and the boat a little to make them stand out a little more from the background.
Steve
RobertoMemberI like it too. The toning is very good but I would make it darker and add a little more contrast.
Steve’s suggestion is good and works. I tried it.Alan RossiterParticipantThanks Gents. I accept all comments and take these on board.
Roberto, if you want to post your version by all means do so, thanks.
Alan.
RobertoMemberThanks Alan.
Here is my quicky version. I decreased the red a little as well.Madra RuaParticipantLovely stuff Alan! A great scene to capture and rally appropriate treatment.

Yes, and I’d also dodge and burn the birds… every one of them!
Alan RossiterParticipantThanks Roberto. I wasn’t sure about yours and Steves suggestions but in comparison you were both dead on. I’ll modify the original, thanks.
Hauke – you need to get out more you evil man.
Alan.
S-ManMemberAlan RossiterParticipantOK – reworked following advice…and very welcome it was too. :)
I’ve increased the vignetting too following advice from GoldenTicket in between a break on “Americas Got Talent”.
It’s also a bigger image as the original had some artifacts showing.
Thanks all.
Alan.
RobertoMemberSteveDParticipantjb7ParticipantYou and your Bigma’s-
Like I really need another lens-That looks like great fun-
I think I’d tone back the vignette though-It’d make a lovely print, large- (any chance of a 100% detail or two?)
though at this scale,
it looks maybe slightly over-sharpened-
Might also be a candidate for heavy de-saturation too-Well caught-

Michael
Alan RossiterParticipantHuh?? Michael, have you been drinking???
Thanks for the compliments. I like it myself but as being the best would generate quite a debate, I’m sure. The Finnish wine is good then, yeah?? Hope you’re enjoying the break and any sign of the ice hockey photographs yet??
