For all those interested, the iMac just got sexier and cheaper…!

If I was in the market for a new machine one of these would be top of my list.

If I liked MACs just a bit more I’d get one…

but tut tut, still only a Core Duo – no sign of a quad-core in there :p

    oh and lol…

Apple’s site that Richie posted a link to wrote:

    What’s in the box

    ? iMac
    ? Power cord
    ? Apple Remote
    ? Apple Keyboard
    ? Mighty Mouse

…hehehe! Still laugh at this… “Here I come to save the dayyyyyy” (any one else remember this?!)

where can you get a quad core for eur1100? Dell maybe?

if you have 4g, you can get an 8 core Mac Pro

Aren’t quads still server-only territory – maybe workstations.

I’m working on a Dell 2GB RAM, AMD Turion (dual core) machine with decent 19″ widescreen and multi card reader. Cost? ?409 plus VAT.

IMac’s … do they come with a copy of Vogue or GQ? :D

Correct me if im wrong but aint there very little software written to take advantage of quad core processors except in the case of server software. Until software is optimisted for quad core your better of with a dual core i think and spend the extra cash on a faster SATA harddrive and more memory.

doesnt photoshop make use of the quad cores??? the issue with photoshop is the plugins, some of them cant make use of the multithreading of the dual or quad cores

As for quad core being a server thing, the mac pro desktop and some dells and hp machines have been using them for a while (but i guess you want to class them as workstations really). as the old versions of xeons were really kept for servers and workstations.

the major issue with the mac at the moment is the OS. its not quite right for multithreaded apps and multiple cores, it only allows an app to take 2Gig os system memory.

when the new version is released it will allow an app to use a whole bunch more. and the way apple say it you want 2 Gig of ram per core to get the most out of the machine.
