Motocross – 56k nightmare.

Alan RossiterParticipant
Motocross during the summer you would expect to be a dusty affair. Indeed, Aidan said “don’t change your lens” because of the dust. This is 2007 and the summer fell on a Wednesday. I went, with my two eldest, to the Enniscorthy edition of the National Motocross Champoinships. In between the rain showers I managed to get a few shots off but running at ISO800 still didn’t manage to freeze any action. Needless to say her indoors (Goldenticket) wasn’t impressed with the field of mud returned home on the soles of shoes.
Anyway, a few following shots were the best of around 140. The rest I will keep but not post here…it’s not worth my while :(
Pre race nerves:
Pre race B*****king
The start – rider 49
The end – rider ???
In case of emergencies break glass – yes, the mud was that bad!!!

jb7ParticipantThey all look quite junior-
3&4 the pick of the bunch for me,
although the framing could have been a little better-j
joe_elwayParticipantNice job Alan. The panning shot it nearly perfect. Wonderfully sharp and well exposed. Just a tad too much off the bottom and unfortunately no face. The nerves shot is a good un as is the muddy racer.
Alan RossiterParticipantThanks Joseph, Aidan.
Yeah, they were young. It seems to be similar to the horsebox bregade – “Daddy bought me a bike for my birthday and he bought mummy a 25ft campervan to go to the races in”. You ain’t never seen a greater collection of state of the art campervans in one group with the couple of Transit vans with trailers that were bogged down in that field on Saturday.
The senior racing was very sparse with only 5 competitors who were very unevenly matched and were defintely no match for my cameras abilities in the gloomy weather.
This is probably the sharpest pan I got on the day but with the helmets covering the head the face shot was a non runner – the best pan position I found to be side in, as shown, to maximise sharpness. Pity about the bottom of the rear tyre…there won’t be a next time.
It was a sad state of affairs that the item of interest that “excited” me most was the shovel lying against the chair. :roll:Alan.
PS – Should have gone to the Phoenix Park :( but couldn’t make it on Sunday – a minor photography competition had to be attended (1st in the Monocrome section and 2nd in the colour section by the way :D :D :D )
joe_elwayParticipantCool. Well done. Phoenix Park was a rain fest. I left in the early afternoon after an hour of rain. It did pick up afterwards tho but I was elsewhere by then.
Brian_CParticipantSome real nice shots there. For me the first one could be better with a bit of cropping off the top, too much distraction going on at the top.
Same with the second, a little cropping needed. What does the banner at the bottom at, nawt. Lose it.
Numbers 3 and 4 are very good crisp pictures.
