Slight Rip Off?

I was across in Scotland last week and bought a new Microsoft 6000 keyboard & mouse from PC World cost ?49.99 or around ?75.00. I was in PC World in Naas on Friday and noticed the same Keyboard & Mouse for only ?129.99. Says it all about Irish prices and what companies think they can get away with.

If you want to buy anything like that go to overclockers.co.uk or elara.ie. Both of them are very reliable and fast. Computer prices here are crazy – not to mention the 2 years old technology that they sell as new.

And I’d add Komplett, and Dabs.ie to that list. Also, for anybody VAT registered, the PCWorld business site is actually surprisingly good

I would also add http://www.itdirect.ie it?s an Irish company based down Parliament Street Dublin. PCWorld and Dixons and the like are way over priced (the odd bargain but its rare). They have no real competition on the high street and people don?t shop around or are afraid to use the internet that?s how they are getting away with the prices I think.

My point, not well expressed, was that in general Irish high street prices are awful, you just have to look at the tickets on clothes that give prices for several countries. There is usually one price for the Eurozone but with a seperate, higher, one for Ireland.
It just seems to be the case that stores charge as much as they like in the knowledge that most people will buy without complaining but often with a sort of weird pride in how much things cost.
Is this a kind of hangover from 15 years ago when there wasn’t much money about and now its a case of look at me see how much I can actually spend.
