DSLR Stranded!!!

  I am considering buying a SH DSLR. My plan is to buy a good SH body and superb lens.

  Here is were I hit a brick wall.

  Ten years ago I knew every camera. I had a Canon T90, Contax 167 , Bronica 67 (Still have) etc
  Now what do I buy as I am stranded between technologies…

  A camera has too feel solid in the hand, not plastic. Good image quality and iso range, excellent metering (spot – I like the zone system) I have reviewing some of the options in dublin and they are:

  Nikon D70
  Nikon D100
  Canon 20D
  Canon 350d

  Is their any point in buying these less than new cameras or do I buy a Nikon D400 and put a better lens on it

  Any opinions or help would be appreciated

  If you’ve a Bronica in your collection then I would suggest either the D100 or 20D. But to be honest you’re better off going for either a D200 or a 30D as the prices for these current “Semi-Pro” cameras have flattened out considerably in the last six months or so and they are an improvement on their previous versions (much improved in the case of the D200),

  Edit: I don’t think the 20D has spot metering – but I’m open to correction on that

  The 30D looks interesting (http://canon30d.org/) and within budget. On the lenses I have mainly used prime lenses are the newer zoom any good?

  The modern zooms are certainly better performers than their 70/80’s ancestors but your experience of film cameras remains the same – prime (or ‘fixed’ as we called them in the old days) lenses still give better better quality for their focal length compared to the zooms at the same focal length,
