You didn’t think I only took the one shot up there, did you?

wow – this has got fantastic potential Hauke – have you seen what happens if you lighten the shadows a bit so we can see a bit more detail in the stones? It may lose the effect, so don’t overdo it?

Nice shot Hauke. Foreground is a bit dark lighten it up a little and i think you have a real nice shot

Thought you didn’t do any hillwalking. Congrats on going up Knocknacloghoge its a lovely area. Lough Dan is amazing. haven’t been down there in years i must get down there again soon.

I have done a HDR conversion from the raw. But I didn’t like result at all.
I guess with some patience I could tickle a little more detail from the rocks.
I agree with you though, it has to be done very carefully. It might already be too much for a ‘contre jour’ shot.

Did I say that? No, I used to walk a lot more, but I still do a few.
I have a few friends who normally walk once a week after work in Wicklow.
This year was so bad though hat we only managed a handful of walks.

I know that area very well. I wrote my thesis on forestry in the Lough Tay and Lough Dan catchment.
I thought I had enough photos of the place after scramblng up and down every slope and gully for a year,
but the DSLR camera and newly gained knowledge makes all the difference now.

As Mr.H said..it’s a shot with great potential Hauke…the sun through the rocks is stunning and perfectly timed, but I think it’s let down a bit by the lack of detail in the rocks. I would think this type of shot would be an ideal candidate for off camera lighting.

Looked at some stunning shots from CianMcLiam (Ken) last night, some of which were quite similar to this in content, and the off camera flash really made a huge contribution to the amount of detail he was able to achieve in the stones.

I think it would definitely be worth a return visit to try it out if you’re inclined :D

The other thing I’d suggest whilst ‘tickling’ is to try and make a little more contrast in the layers between the hills in the background which would give it more depth. They almost blend into one at the moment. This is not something I would have the PS skills or the patience for myself but I think it will enhance it further.

    Hi Hauke!

If this were mine..I’d be doing the happy dance on the top stone….I’m still aspiring to this achievement.

I am glad they’ve all pointed out ways to improve still…it’s really worth making all you possibly sould from this.

    It’s really outstanding.

    Thanks Shar.

I could have a problem with that dance, though.
That stone is only the size of a football.

    Hi Hauke

I think it works as is. It depends on what you wanted to show in the photo. Is it the details in the stones ,is it the light shining through the stones. If your main subject is the light (as I thought by the title) then I don’t need to see anymore details in the stone,I can see what they are. Thats why it works for me
