Do these images convey the excitement and action of Go-Karting?

    Thank you.

They might have conveyed it better if you had more out of focus bits
and maybe some whizzy bits from panning.

Mind you, this isn’t a type of photo I’ve ever tried to take, so I’m far
from being expert. They look pretty sharp and well-exposed.

Not exactly! The riders are bunched up good and close but in the first pic, the 2nd driver is in focus but the first driver should really be the main point of focus as he takes over most of the frame!

I’m not sure where the focus is on the second photo.

The second pic is underexposed a reasonable amount. Shiny helmets and karts don’t help. Could be worth metering manually if conditions are relatively consistent.

Your aperture seems very small. Open the lens up more to knock the background out of focus. f4 or 5.6 should do the job of getting most of the kart in focus but blurring out the rest.

    What lens were you using?

What shutter speed, aperture and ISO were the photos taken at?

Are you standing or kneeling for these pics?

Personally I would go with the less depth of field & prefocus for these types of shots. Is there much bouncing up off kerbs/wheels up in the air? Would look great in a photo.
Panning shots would help too to convey the speed but not so much for this style of pic.

With a few tweaks at the shooting stage you could easily have fantastic action photos :P
