Another day another milestone for PI?
-
Mr.HParticipant
I’m sure I am not the only to have noticed that the number of members at the bottom of the screen has been edging ever closer to 1000 of late. In fact if the current rate of new members continues this should happen before the end of today.
I am sure I’m not the only one who thinks this is a great achievement and would like to pass on my congratulations, and thanks to Mark and the mods for his and their hard work in creating the framework for such an interesting and addictive forum.
It seems that the forum has ‘kicked on’ again in the past number of weeks and there are plenty of new ideas to keep us all coming back (and I guess keep Mark busy). My only problem is that there is so much to going on, I may have to give up the day job to keep up!
Obviously it is also the members who ultimately create the interesting (adictive) content so …. so perhaps its time for a virtual glass of bubbly.
Cheers
Gary
jb7ParticipantThat’s nothing-
I’ve made 2000 posts in less than a year. And not one in the ‘word association’ thread.
Sad or what?
Seriously though,
While there are a lot of members,
the majority of them have made no posts whatsoever,
and although the numbers look impressive,
the reality may be different-I don’t know if anything could or should be done about it-
maybe its not important-But the reality is that we’re quite a small site,
with quite a small active membership-Some serious addicts though
:D

2000 posts, dude thats a lotta words, :-)
i think i have spoken to a few members recently who all have the same thing to say, the site is a great resource and often ignore some of the other sites as there more than enough going on here
I think your idea of the book of birds has really taken off, I reckon we could get to the stage where we could build a searchable database of the birds and the images etc
also we have some even bigger ideas on the way. they not confirmed, but watch this space
Mr.HParticipantPoint taken JB7 – I just did a quick look through the member list and over 500 have less than 5 posts…. rather detracts from my comments (perhaps I’ll recork the virtual bubbly) but my sentiment is still valid! Just as well as I’d definately have to give the day job up if they all had 2000 posts.
Looking forward to getting involved in some of the ‘bigger ideas’ Steve.
Gary
RobMemberVirtual glass of bubbly it is then…
And congratulations Joseph on reaching the 2k mark.
A lot of words, as Steve noted. And quite a number of
them with greater than three syllables…
Wot a swot!Rob.
jb7ParticipantThanks lads-
Bigger Ideas?
Impossible!
(there you are Rob,
another 4 syllabler,
although as you might have noticed,
the bigger ones turn out to be not words at all,
just stuff I made up.

seriously trust me, WATCH THIS SPACE, :-)
i think there is lots we can do the step up the pace a little, adding lots of things
MarkKeymasterI have a bottle waiting at home for me ;)
PI can’t stand still so plans are afoot now that I’m refreshed after my hols :)
Alan RossiterParticipantQuite an achievement – well done to all. It’s a pity that we’re realistically only looking at between 5-10% active members but what can you do! Still, when you look at it it’s quite a resource that’s established for anyone looking for information or advice.
Bubbly it is then!
Alan.
MarkKeymasterAround 50% of members have made 5 or more posts. Also some of those are new. Thats good going.
This is standard with all forums really. Trust me I did some studies before I started PI to see what the critical mass was and all that.
Sad I know :)
Sure it would be nice if everyone posted lots all the time but thats never the case. I don’t do that myself on other forums :DjlangParticipantI think PI is doing quite well with over a hundred members with over a hundred posts and new members joining at a steady rate. I’m a member of several fora where I’ve only posted once or twice and some with no posts at all or where I just registered to see what things are like. Very few people can keep active in more than two or three and even then they’ll go through phases between active participation without even logging in. It’s when old members move away deliberately that you start to be careful.
Jay KingParticipantCongrats to Mark and the others for all the work and effort put in – I know how hard it can be to get a forum off the ground and keep it going… and even though we may not have 2000 ‘active’ members – they were still people who actually found the site and were interested enough to sign up in the first place…
Sounds like you’ve got a lot in the pipe line too… if you need anyone to help do any monotonous or seemingly pointless tasks just give me a shout!

The force is strong in this one. A moderator, shall he be. [in a corny Yoda accent]
Alan.
