Slide 35mm Film Scanning Ireland or abroad
-
digitalageParticipant
I have a couple of slides I want to get scanned at highest possible scan, are there cheaper alternatives than some of the labs in Dublin, LSLphotolabs are looking for 18 plus vat for a high res scan of upto 70mb, seems pretty expensive since I got about 20 slides I need done. I need these done ASAP any help would be great.
stcstcMember18 euro is cheap
i would expect to pay more like 40 for hi-res proper scan
the kit you need costs 10K or so for a good film scanner and an operator would get paid 40K a year so paying for thta is ever increasingly hard
digitalageParticipantThanks for the reply, might just invest in a nikon coolscan..is there any comaprisons between the nikon scans and scans from a lab, are they worth the money.
stcstcMemberI have a an epson v750pro which is actually a flat bed scanner but is very good at doing film too. It might be worth investing in something like that instead. It can do very hi res film scans and produces very good results. but its not cheap
I got it from sheldon photographic who happen to be one of the site sponsors. maybe give him a call
digitalageParticipantThanks stcstc, would you recommend this scanner over a nikon 5000, sorry for all the questions, but I came from digital to film :D , my 1d MII has’nt seen daylight in weeks.
stcstcMemberwell it depends on your use, i just like the flexibility of the facts its a flatbed
chris_makeParticipanthave a look at this link
http://www.photo-i.co.uk/Reviews/interactive/Epson%20V750/page_1.htmits a fairly indepth review and compares the epson to the nikon and some other dedicated film scanners.
the labs will be using a drum scanner which will give you much sharper, cleaner and higher resolution images (although 70mb is less than 4800dpi for a 35mm slide).
i seen a flexlight (hasselblads drum scanner) going on ebay for ?1500, they retail at ?15,000 new.
with everyone moving to digital, now is a great time to get into film as everything is going cheap :)
