Thought I’d say hi. Just signed up. Always useful chatting to others who have an interest in photography. Some usernames on here are familiar to me from other sites, which is nice.

I guess for now I’m one of the few here with the 40D … my new baby.

Anyway, I look forward to posting and learning.

    Welcome paul,

Have fun, how is the 40D handling for you. Did u upgrade from the 30D and if so, can you highlight any noticelable differences.

    Thanks,

    Max

Max, I upgraded from a 20D. I didn’t see any reason to go from the 20D to 30D when it came out.

The 40D is wonderful – 14bit raw files (more colour and more detail), larger burst buffer, larger LCD, quicker AF, higher fps, still works with all my 20D accessories etc.

I’ve had it almost a month now, and I am finding excuses just to go out and use it. It’s a major upgrade in terms of what it can do. I know they say that the equipment doesn’t make the photographer, but I do feel the results I am getting from the camera are superior to those I was getting with the 20D.

The body is about the same – size and weight. So, it has the same feel. I am using the BG-E2 battery pack on it.

I do think it’s a good upgrade from the 30D, but know it’s a great upgrade from the 20D.

    Thanks for the info Paul,

Its true, a good camera does not make a good photographer but different aspects of photography have different demands and the high end cameras or more expensive have the technical specifications to deal with those demands.

Theres also the increased resolution and improved colour managment aspect, reduced noise levels at higher ISO’s that can lead to better pictures also.

But I have to say good equipment does improve your shots unless your incapable of composing a shot.

    Thanks,

Welcome to the forum Paul. I didn’t see people bragging with their new photos taken with a 40d and I would be curious how the pictures look like so don’t wait for too long with the posting! If you need any technical help, we know everything, or at least we think we know ;)

    Regards, Random
