I think this shot will look better printed than on screen but sure let me know what you think….

    Super moody/dramatic!!! I love it!
One question though… how do you get the jet black sky?!? I’ve tried for a wile now to get that, but at no avail (artifacts and noise arent nice :-()
So how do you do it Martin?

Very nice Martin. Even though the tree is so central, the wire fence behind
helps to draw you into the image and give a great sense of depth overall. Keep
the IR work coming. Very impressive.

Feck the central part it’s an amazing image. I thought IR photography was difficult to get the right focus? This, and your lighthouse are pin point.

    Amazing!

    Martin,
Look’s wounderful on screen and I bet you are right about the print.
Contrast and lighting are spot on.

IR? O right…. I guess thats why the sky gets that jet black look to it (or am I wrong?)… is there any way to replicate this in PS (with curves I guess…)?

Thanks all for your comments folks

trailfox: Yep its the IR that gets the sky’s so black. I also play with the curves a small bit to get them even darker. Sky’s don’t return much IR light thats why you get the black. Clouds on the other hand do reflect IR light so that is why they come out nice and bright. Also when clouds are full of water this can turn the clouds quite dark as allot of water will return no IR (this is why the weather forecasters take IR satellite images, tells them if clouds contain water which tells them if it will rain). As for creating this in photoshop it can be difficult. You can try to play with curves and the contrast control to mimic it. Like the polarizer filter, IR filters effect cannot be created in photo shop 100% accurately.

Rob: Yea the tree is central but i like that in this shot as its a simple shot. Really like the fence also great to here you liked it

irishwonkafan: “I thought IR photography was difficult to get the right focus?” . Yea you here this allot. Not a big issue in landscape photography. IR light does focus closer but as long as you are a good few meters from your subject and using a large enough DOF its not a problem. You can get the IR cameras focusing systems calibrated i never bothered though.

neilmcshane: Thanks for the comment Neil, looking forward to doing a print. Only have an A4 printer at the moment, really have to get an A3 printer soon.

The above image has not been cropped. I also didnt crop this guy below i think this is the version i will do a print of

    Thanks again all

    Class shots Martin!
    Amazing detail and great light.
Makes me want to convert a camera for IR photography too.

You stick to your landscapes Hauke. My camera gets suicidal tendencies when it sees your images as it is. IR will throw it over the edge…literally. :(

Oh Yes the landscape version is much better.
The space around gives the tree more room to breathe if you know what i mean.

    Outstanding shot Martin.
Like the second one, as already said more space.
But I can now see the full shadow of the tree on the ground which I couldn’t see in the first.

Thanks for that martin… I am now enlightened in the way of IR… creates a ‘stop you in your tracks to take a look at it’ effect, #2 is very nice too, but I still like #1 though :D
