I’m assuming it was in Ireland? I think there’s a survey somewhere
that records these because there aren’t too many about. You should

The pi Book of Irish Amphibians might be a slender volume-So, what is it, where was it?

It’s a reptile. We ain’t got many cos of that other famous Welshman – St Patrick.
The viviparous lizard is Ireland’s only lizard and is quite common in a number of dry habitats. It is yellowish-brown in colour with irregular black markings along the length of the body.
This is what I know it as.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NewtI saw it in Donegal during the summer. My kids were fascinated as they have always been told that we dont have Lizards or Snakes in Ireland.
It was about 5-6 inches long. (Including the tail).

Don’t tell JB before me – I’ve just offered him a ten pound bet that it’s a lizard.
Apparently it depends on the number of toes on the front leg from my research this am.
Its not clear from this photo but I have one other which clearly shows as he/she scarpered off at high speed…
I’m not telling :lol:

Newts are smooth and rarely out of the water….it’s a common lizard :D I’ve only seen them in Brittas bay…..lizards that is
