Who’s a pretty boy then?

I think this is a snipe in the water around Wexfords Wildfowl Reserve. I took several shots of this guy and many others. I thought the rings and his stance made this one quite attractive. I’m looking for feedbck on the composition. OK, I couldn’t have done much more with a wild animal but as regards the off centre bird – neither central or within the rule of thirds. To me it works…but I want opinions.

The only work done on this was a crop and a couple of dust spots that have been removed.

ya alan it works alright love the crop and the composition and especially the shallow dof stops the stones competing with the parrot in the picture …. good job

Nice shot Al! Good crop, composition and DOF, all been said already but this picture also tells something of a story. That’s what can really make a picture stand out. Looking closer you have kept to the rule of thirds if you look at it vertically rather than horizontally (Rocks, Birdy, Water) … Ok loosely you have but whatever, it looks good, that’s all that matters :)

Thanks folks. It’s not often I submit a photograph that’s not pushed in the saturation dept so I was conscious of this one, both in composition and rendition.

    Glad you liked it.

This really works Alan in all departments.
The title is a bit distracting though, perhaps its a bit too large ? Anyhow, its a super photo.

It’s a nice pic. I like the composition.
But I’m near certain it ain’t no snipe. I’ll get
back to you on that one.

EDIT: Possibly a dunlin. Maybe one of the experts will tell us.
Good shot for the bird book.

Thanks Gents. I take on board the comment about the size of the title. It’s part of an action to place a frame in PS – I changed the font but didn’t notice the size.

Pete – I’d appreciate it if you could verify the bird. I thought snipe but I’m far from being knowledgable on these things. If and when it’s verified I’ll repost in the “Bird book”.

Excellent Alan. Lovely composition and perfectly sharp too.
To be honest, I don’t think it needs a frame or title at all; the
image is strong enough to stand on its own…

Great picture, would be nice to see a bit of a catchlight in the eye perhaps but it is still a wonderful capture.
