Nikon F80 Q?
-
jessthespringerParticipant
Hi all, new to this forum so put me right if im posting in the wrong place.
Can anyone tell me what DX means, its on constantly on the top plate of my F80, bought it off ebay so didn’t get a manual, bought a guide off amazon but it’s not much help. Have the feeling it means something bad but not sure. Almost had kittens today when the top plate was flashing F EE.. thought I had broken something, even thought i’d hardly touched anything (this actually happens me alot.. I seem to be able to break computers by just standing beside them!) figured out some hours later that I had touched the aperture ring by mistake.. doh! Anyhu.. I digress..
Anyone know what DX means?Cheers,

As far as I know DX relates to Nikon “Digital Only” lenses? What lenses are you using?
Steve
IOPParticipantDX Coding is the bar code on the side of the film cannister that the camera can read. It carries info about the film; ISO, Film Type, Number of Exposures etc.
It was great fun in the old days when I was buying my black and white film by the meter and loading it into film cassettes by hand [ 44 exposures anyone :) ] but we were poor then and had very few options if you shot a lot of film,

jessthespringerParticipantCheers lads,
Steve, im using a Nikon 28-80, Nikon 24mm f2.8 N and a 50mm f1.4
The 28-80 was on it when I got it. The 50 is new and I bought the 24 secondhand from Greys of Westminster (who incidently, were extremely helpful).Cheers Dave.. so it’s not bad then?
richy5497MemberHehehe, told you it was the Aperture ring. Thanks for showing me this forum BTW, its excellent ;)

Hard to say Sinead but the F80 manual on page 36 says:
When film speed is set to DX and DX-coded film is installed, film speed is automatically set between ISO 25-5000. Film speed can also be set manually with DX-coded film to have an effect of increased or decreased film sensitivity.
I have a pdf of the f80 manual if that helps,
Dave
jessthespringerParticipantDave, once again thanks for your help, it was just one of those things that was kinda bugging me a bit but im happy now that it’s nothing to worry about.. cheers for the offer of the pdf but I think il move on to worring about something else now, like taking some decent pictures for example!!
Howya Richard… could’t wait to get home and check the aperture ring  doh!
Sinead.
