Alan RossiterParticipantI have to be honest – whenever someone mentioned Holga I threw my eyes – why bother, but this set has certainly put me back in my place. They’re fantastic. Old looking and attractive. I like old styles and these press all my buttons. I agree about the last one but I can’t fault the rest.
Alan.
jb7ParticipantI know this isn’t a critique section,
and we’re only allowed backslapping here,
and oohs and ahhs,
but I know you can take it Martin,
so Ill say what I think-I’m sure there’s lots of detail in these,
you must have one of the good ones with the glass lens-Processing looks a tiny bit flat,
to the point where the vinaigrette is hardly even showing-The first is probably my favourite of all the Craggy Island Wrecks-
and I’m sure that when you print it (on an enlarger)
it’ll be a grade (and a half) harder-And thems big waves in the fourth-
I like to see thes things printed full frame with the rebates showing,
but thats a personal preference-
Good to limit yourself to one roll,
its a completely different way to organize yourself-
you got a good hit rate out of these-j
MartinParticipantThanks for the reply guys,
irishwonkafan: Glad you liked them Alan. You should give the Holga a go its good fun. The camera only costs 20 euro on ebay:-) Took the last one out the sharpening was a bit ott:-)
jb7: Thanks Joseph. Don’t know if i have a glass lens or plastic lens. The shots are surprisingly sharp in the center alright. Composition with these cameras is different but really good fun. You really do have to use the sharp center when framing the shop as the person looking at the pic i think is drawn to the center. Yea these might look a bit flat. I purposely did not do much post processing on them. Wanted to leave them as natural as i could. Had another go at the first shot to give it a bit more ump see below
Thanks again guys
MEddieParticipantMartin, You did a good job on the negatives, they look fairly clean, most of the images are really strong and will print really well. You could pump up the contrast a little in PS especially on the Plassey shot, this will enhance the vingetting. The subtle diffused cloud detail which also shows up well in prints is one of my favourite characteristics of the Holga and it shows up well in your images.

Have you seen the Fr Ted TV show over there. This ship appears on the opening sequence.

Yes – Over a period of months I rented the whole series on DVD.
Now I have to go. There is a child stuck in the tunnel of goats.
