Use of an image

I’ve been contacted by an american firm that is looking to reproduce one of my images for envelopes on a mailing list they’re sending to their customers.
They’ve offered to credit my website on each envelope as well as “reasonable monetary compensation”.
I’ve replied asking them how much they’re looking to pay, as well as for other information. But does anyone have experience in charging for this type of business? They’ll basically have a copy of the image to print as they wish on between 100,000 – 300,000 envelopes….any ideas?
Sounds good. I think a fair price would be 10c per image, especially when being so mass reproduced.
I think thats too much, you’ll be netting $10 000 – $30 000 if you charge that!!! I’d ask for 1 or 2 cents per image and you’d still get between $1000 and $6000.
But then i’m just a nosey amateur ;)
Try looking them up on the net to see how much you think they’ll make and charge accordingly.

The old price that I have here for a repro licence for that usage is between $922 and $1330 depending on the printrun. You need a bit of neck to ask for these amounts, but if they are used to dealing with stock agencies they won’t be too surprised, but do bare in mind that the agencies would normally retain 50% commission so you can always drop the price by half…
Whether you get the sales depends upon how unique the image is, but better to start high and drop your prices.
You can always take a lttle more off if they guarantee the credit line for your website.

I have that linked from my flickr, facebook and myspace pages thoughFolks, just to give an update on this. They never got back to me unforunately…but it turned out the company was an adult book shop who were distributing advertising for an adult movie called Sweet Dark Chocolate….
So if any of you see what image they used instead please let me know :)

Unfortunately there are a lot of companies looking to steal the photographers with unreasonable prices, and I think most of them start the search on flickr. I was contacted before, but they all wanted free usage…
I would have thought around $ 700 to $800 would be right.
I’ve never sold a picture from FLickr though – I just use them to store photos I use on my Squidoo sites.
I did have a couple of people wanting to use Paris pix from Flickr but neither wanted to pay for them… funny how people get paid for doing picture research but don’t actually want to part with money…
Picture researchers get $20 to $30 an hour by the way.Keith
