Canon 40D and 580ex MK1

    Hey guys

    i was trying to set up my 40D with my 580 to do rear curtain sync tonight. when i go to the customfunction for the flash control on the camera

    the camera says its not a compatible flash. Anyone come across this or know if i am doing something wrong???

    Only the 580EX II will allow all the functions to be done through the camera, the normal 580EX won’t :(

    where did you find that info. the manual doesnt seem to say it

    Steve – but you know how to set it up for rear curtain sync normally, ie via the panel on the back of the flash, right? Just wondering, as the question wasn’t specifically aimed at wanting to control it from the camera.

    yea, did know that but, i was able to set stuff from the 30d, the other one that was greyed out was the FEB

    What a bummer then.. Duly noted for my upgrade to the 40D in a few months time. I’m not keen on splashing out on a Mk.II…

    Do you ask a Bird how it flies? A fish how it holds its breath for so long?? I am highly intelligent, thats how i know stuff that other do not!!! Tsk!

    I read it in either DPReview.com or Amateur Photographer Magazine not sure where :)

    ah ok dude

    i just couldnt find out, and with my 30d i can do it you see,
