I am buying locally, expected first week of december. I ordered it ages ago with the 24-70 lens.

if you want an apparently good deal go to Mathers of Lincolnshire, they are so much cheaper than anyone else, D3 and 24-70 lens = 1500.00 euros cheaper than the standard price over here. I know of at least one photographer who has ordered from them, expected delivery before christmas.

That’s a big drop Phil, that’s like getting the 24-70 for free nearly.

The Big demand is why I am still buying locally (I ordered it ages ago) and yes it is nearly the cost of the 24-70. Or a big chunk of change towards a 70-200 f2.8 hsm VR! which is next on the hit list.
I am in London in january and so will pop down to Pimlico and a short walk to Grays of Westminster, which all Nikonians know is THE Nikon shop to visit. Whether I can afford to buy is another matter !?!?

If you speak to anyone else over here selling D3s they are all saying that Mathers are only selling grey imports, which is a load of rubbish. And that nikon UK is not going to be supplying them the gear, so take care, it could be summer of next year before you get anything. By then other companies will be offering good deals. Its only due to high demand that there are not many deals to be had right now. I think Mathers is looking for a 200 pound sterling deposit.

Anyway, in about three weeks I will ahve one in my hands and we will be able to see if they really are as good as everyone is saying.

Nikon is having a demo day, in London, 27th November I think it is at Olympia, not sure, will try to find the email, you will be able to handle all the latest kit at the show. and make up your minds whether the D3 is worth the expense or is the D300 better value for money, if you do not want full frame that is.

This is going to be interesting how this all works out with the D3. As far as Greys are concerned, I heard all of their D3s are going to the NPS (Nikon Pro shooter) crowd. So regardless of where your name is on the list, you’ll have to wait until they’re supplied. I’m also hearing/reading that Nikon are requesting other dealers follow and supply NPS first. Of course that could be rumor, I have no way of knowing one way or the other.

For those waiting for the D3 or D300 (Me :D ) There is a link to the User Manuals on Ken Rockwell’s site (via Nikon USA)

So brush up before they arrive

    Hi All,

I’ve ordered a Nikon D3+24-70 / 2.8 from Matherscameras on Fri. 26/10/2007, and should receive them before Christmas.

I spoke to Mathers today to get their comments on “grey imports”. They assured me they are getting their cameras from Nikon UK, with full Nikon UK Warranty. They went on to say grey imports are NOT available till 6 to 8 months after a camera is released, and they said they have never sold grey imports, and they won’t now either. To support this they said their quota is now full to Spring ’08, so they are only receiving their cameras from Nikon UK. Well that’s their story and I for one hope it’s right!!!

    Regards,
    Dominic

    Hiya,

Nikon D-3 with AFS 24-70mm f2.8ED lens ?3695 from Mathers Cameras UK.
It looks like a good deal especially with current exchange rates.

I also rang Nikon UK today to know when Nikon D3 will be available on demand (i.e. all current orders filled) the person I spoke with thinks they should be available from February, but I’m sure that must depend on orders going in between now and then!

    Hope this is of help,
    Regards,
    Dominic

Its here, I picked up my D3 this afternnon in Cork city, just got home.
Its out of its box and the battery is on charge.
Not much else to say other than the manual is MASSIVE.

Really nice camera to hold, the build quality is excellant, as you would expect.

I have to do some quick jobs before I can have a play so will let you know first impressions tomorrow.

Capture NX is a freeby, they give you a product key to use with the download version, so will do that tomorrow too.

My only gripe is that my 24-70 did not arrive at the same time, hopefully will get it just before or just after new year.

Feel free to pop over Dominic if you want to have a look, any news on yours yet? I was surprised that mine came in today, the news on the grapevine is that there is a short supply and Nikon UK are having trouble filling the orders that they promised to the dealers.

I will give it a shake down later and let you know tomorrow how it is.

Must have been a few delivered over the past couple of days. I know a couple people who got theirs today, including myself…. :D

Have to say it’s a wonderful piece of love. Makes me think that my d200 had been in dyer need of service over the past while.

I could go on and on, but I’m sure most of everyone has read how great it is. To be honest I have not had a chance to test anything properly anyway.

Here’s a few sample shots (testers). These are strait out of the camera JPGs, in camera NR on low. Imported and downsized in LR, opened in PS and applied a 60, 2 unsharp mask to all them (except the crops). ISO and WB set to auto. I tweaked some of the in camera settings, by the looks of things I’ll be turning the contrast down a notch. Think exif should still be intact.

    apologies to low bandwidth users

Got mine the other day Phil, went straight out with it,it’s very quick, silent and quality is excellant, the only gripe i have is,it’s a lot bigger than i thought it would be,but that’s a small niggle. It’ll be worth the wait,

    sean.
