A couple of mono portraits of the beautiful Frankie. This is a technique where you convert to mono and lighten the skin tones, but really darken the eyes. The whites of the eyes are boosted too, for added contrast. The idea is to help draw attention to the eyes, which are the area of darkest contrast in the picture.

Wow! Ross, these are incredible and I know I’ve used the word
very carefully in the past (when I can’t believe my eyes) but this time
I simply mean the shots are brilliant. No.2 looks a bit over-worked
if I’m to be honest, but no.1 is just fantastic. I can scarcely believe the way
you’ve captured hair and face and skin and chin and eyes and expression and
any other thing I can think of.

    Just awesome.

Ross, I know Frankie and I think she will be well pleased with these.
Lovely shots and nice b/w treatments. Good stuff.

    They’re both lovely Ross,
best of the lot so far for me-
both nicely positioned and framed too-

The eyes do seem just a little dark on my monitor,
though I can make out the separation of the cornea and the pupil-

    The makeup seems fantastic;
the texture of the skin seems more or less untouched where i can see it,
so I’d be guessing makeup and lighting-
    any more clues?

Anyway, as I said, both lovely-

Really like these, love the lightness of the skin tone and the amount of subtle detail with such a high key tonal range.
Can’t really choose between them, they’re both excellent shots.

A home run with these……..you did a good job shooting them but from all the shots of frankie one can’t go wrong………very stunning woman……..really like the conversion and how you popped her eyes…………..

but she has such lovely pale eyes!!! I’m not a fan of these Ross, you can get high contrast to the eyes without darkening them completely, just high-contast the iris… Nice to see experimentation though, something to do with the red channel I’m guessing.

Thank you all for your comments, I know that the model herself really likes them, which is important to me. Particularly as the shoot was arranged at her suggestion/approach, which is hopefully a sign that I am doing something right. :D

Si – I was careful (in my opinion  ) not to darken the irises too much. I can still see the pupil of the eye as darker than the iris, although I accept I could have made the iris less darker than it is. I suppose it is a matter of individual taste, but this was my own ‘technique,’ so I didn’t have any baseline to work from – just the idea to lighten the skin tones as far as possible whilst retaining detail, and darkening (and over sharpening) the eyes to make them stand out.

Stunning portraits of a beautiful woman…! The processing is really well handled too.

    Nice work as usual Ross…!

I’m afraid I’m with Si on these ones Ross… the processing is just a touch over done IMO. They’re nice shots, but slightly over cooked in PS. Personally I’d rather see more contrast over the whole shot. Apart from that, compositionally they’re quite strong and of course, Frankie is extremely photogenic. Nice shots.

I think these are better than the colour ones. Her eyes are very powerful in these shots. Well done.
