Is my Holga broke?!
-
Jay KingParticipant
I’ve noticed my Holga shots are coming out rather dark lately… well, darker than I expected! Sometimes next to nothing gets exposed on the film…
So had a look inside – and I’m not sure if what I’m seeing is right. When I adjust the setting/switch for what would be the aperture I guess, from Sunny to Clouldy, a little black bit moves back and forth across the lens/opening from one side to the other depending on which setting I choose. But I noticed that the black bit of plastic is a bit loose and seems to move out of position ever so slightly… Here’s a shot of what it looks like inside, holding it open using the Bulb setting: (excuse the crappy P&S shots!)
Set to ‘Cloudy’
Set to ‘Sunny’
Sometimes the moving part would be sitting right across the middle if not pushed hard into sunny or cloudy with the switch…
Can anyone with a Holga (mine’s a 120FN but guess they would be similar) tell me if their one is the same or is mine broke :( If it is I don’t mind getting a new one… if it’s not… guess I just have to figure out what I’m doing wrong!!
Cheers…
EddieParticipantIt is the aperture setting between sunny and cloudy that is causing the problem. The aperture is the same in both sunny and cloudy but appears to be getting stuck in the middle. Jamming it left or right with some tape or bluetac should do the trick.

Thanks Eddie, I’ll do just that… I can move it so that the whole thing is to the left and out of the way, then hold it in place there…
Cheers…
