Not sure how to compose baby pics but here’s a few of my wk old son Matthew…
Got a little distracted by his hand and foot
Any tips on how to improve composition?
PixelleMemberCongratulations to all concerned.
He’s so gorgeously new. . I can almost smell the new baby smell from #2.
jb7ParticipantYes, well done-
I reckon you have no shortage of subject matter for quite a while-
Just now, getting the scale of the hands and feet would be good-
maybe by including your own, or your partner’s hands and feet-After that, its knowing when to stop-
And you have all those sleepless nights to get the processing done-
Good pictures-j
AllinthemindParticipantCongratulations.
Once the wrinkles have ironed out a bit you’ll have a perfectly symmetrical little person to shoot, you can photograph them straight on, if you keep the eyes on the diagonals it can be effective, don’t worry about chopping the top of the head off.
They are usually interested in the flashgun popping and will soon look at it.
Good luck with sleep
Si :)
Below is a test-tube baby, I can’t remember his exact age but he couldn’t hold his head up, so still very young. He was resting over his dad’s shoulder.

congratulations on the birth of Matthew and I have to say he is adorable and its making me all broody again but I won’t be going there. He is a little dote and of course enjoy every minute of him. They don’t stay babies for long.
You are lucky in that when photographing him, he won’t be busy and jigging about. My little girl is nearly 2 and its impossible to get her to stay still for 1 second except maybe when Barney is on then she is manic!
I loved your pics and all the little detail and as p&s said you could almost get the new baby smell from him.
Well done and of course congratulations.
Helen
BiddyParticipantLovely images. I agree with j about showing little baby parts to scale by winding his fingers around one of your own for example…. or holding his foot in your hand.
