Sony A700 compatible flash???

Now I know that most here won’t be able to answer this one but maybe, just maybe, someone can. The Sony A700 has a dedicated flash unit called the 56FM…wey hey! The Sony A700 flash is over ?400…boo hoo! There are adaptors that will allow for generic flashes to be used but only to activate and not act in conjunction with the camera settings such as TTL metering.

So, does anyone know of a solution? I’ve seen a Sigma flash that will work – but again with an adaptor and no mention of interaction with the camera. Any help would be most appreciated as I don’t want Santa getting confused…or spending unnecessary money from my credit card. :?

    alan, there’s also a 3600HS (D) version, much cheaper.
I think most of the 3rd party flashguns will loose the wireless flash functionality on the Sony/Minolta’s

BTW: how you getting on with the A700.

I’ve since got a Sigma flash with all the functionality and spec as the 56FM for 2/3’rds of the price so I’m quite pleased with it.

The A700 – I can’t fault it…well, maybe too many buttons, dials, etc. With the vertical grip I frequently placed my thumb on a dial that inadvertently dialled down the exposure. It’s since been rectified but you get the jist of it. Getting out at the moment is the only problem but I could only highly recommended the A700. BTW – did you see the A200?? I don’t understand why to be honest. All the same features but in a bigger body and a slight boost in ISO. Odd!

    Alan.
