Good Compact with Remote?
-
figParticipant
I need a good compact with a remote trigger and shoots Raw if possible. Any suggestions anyone?
Dominic 7ParticipantHiya,
An excellent camera is Ricoh Caplio GX100 (24-72 zoom 35mm Equivelant) With electronic viewfinder = VF Kit,
or without. Shoots RAW and Jpg.Dominic
figParticipantThanks Dominic. The specs look good on that all right. It might be a bit out of my range for a compact.
PitmaticMemberI am not uptodate on the latest gear available but if you dont mind going second hand there ia the canon G series, I have a G3 which has a remote, full manual control, supports RAW, F2 lens 28mm equiv , a built in ND filter (how cool is that!) and with an adapter tube can accept filters and add on lenses.
This camera i have tapped to a 40ft carbon fibre carp fishing pole and taken photos with it like this http://www.flickr.com/photos/pitmatic/394539382/in/set-72157594372478441/ although i broke some sections of the pole so its about half the length it used to be…
The other camera i have is a Canon s60 which is very similar to the G3 feature wise but its smaller and lighter now i cant remember if it comes with a remote or not but i use an IR trigger to fire it when its on my kites and despite the sliding door being pants and flimsy it has survived immersion in a cow pat… and both cameras use compact flash which costs nothing to get big cards
The real downer is chromatic aberation but that is really just in certain types of shots and i rate both these cameras over a olympus c-60 which is my standin kite camera should the s60 fall to earth too hard and also has a remote but no raw support.

Just a thought pennys worth etc

figParticipantThanks for the detailed info guys. Lots to think about there. I think I will keep an eye out for a G series second hand somewhere as my budget is quite low.
