i’am heading to the states next year for a few weeks and am thinking of bringing my camera and a lense or two (canon L lenses)with me ,my question is with the customs ,if i’am stopped on the way back how do the customs know i didn’t get them over there. Would i be better off leaving them here and bring over a small camera instead.
Well, one option would be to bring your original receipt (if you still have it) and wave it in their faces if they dare to question you.
I’m pretty sure also that the serial numbers on the equipment will say where they were produced, but I doubt customs officers would have this information to hand.
I definitely don’t think you should give up on your chance to take pictures in America just because of this worry.
There’s no way they could make you pay import fees for something you got in this country, they may try, but they couldn’t get away with it.
I don’t think you’d have too much to worry about anyway unless you have the camera and lenses in their boxes or something. They probably look like they been used a bit.
This post probably isnt a whole load of help, but I just thought I’d weigh in with my half a cent’s worth.
I travel to the US/Canada at least once a year. I’ve never ever been stopped and asked about my camera equipment by customs. And sometimes I do buy bits when abroad.
It’s actually not something I’ve ever thought of. I just travel.
