Alan RossiterParticipant
Just a boat, an island and a tree.
A venture out with Lousyphoto and Nfl-fan. My monitor isn’t calibrated at the moment so this may be bleached out or dark as night. Feedback on the light/darkness until I get my system back to 100% would be welcome.
…and this one won’t be in the POTY for this month. I’ve got a better one (I think :? )
Alan
sean1098MemberIt looks ok to me alan,it’s not to dark,or to bright imo.i like the conv, also the reflections are great.
there is a nice soft feel to it.
Sean.
nfl-fanParticipantAlan, another fine shot… you must have got this one when yourself and lousy disappeared on me… I think I might have been pottering around that old graveyard at the time.
The only thing I would say is that the water to the front left of this pic has a rather un-usual look about it, almost un-natural looking when compared to the water reaching towards the background.
Alan RossiterParticipantThe water is unnatural looking (if that’s not an oxymoron). The water here was about 1″ deep and any ripple showed itself as a line. Unfortunately when taking a photograph this line looks like a botched PS job…of which it isn’t.
Thanks for the comment John & Sean.
Alan
nfl-fanParticipantUnfortunatley my vocabulary doesn’t extend quite as far as your’s Alan.
For anyone else in the same boat (no pun intended): “An oxymoron (plural oxymorons or, more rarely, oxymora) is a figure of speech that combines two normally contradictory terms”
:D :D :D
PixelleMemberOn my monitor there is a bright line round most of the edges [boat, top of land] Also what caught my eye was something projecting from the top of the reflection of the tree, might be the mooring post?
Almost an abstract effect, well spotted.Alan RossiterParticipantThanks Stephanie. That halo was what I was afraid of. On my monitor at the moment I can’t see the halo which is my biggest gripe with post processed images.
The point above (below) the tree is a mooring point. You can walk to the boat from the edge of the lake which is just out of shot. Maybe it’s a complication that could be excluded.
Thanks for the info.
Alan
lousyParticipantI don’t know Al but I do think it’s a nice shot, the water in front and the halos are pretty noticeable. This is my first post tonight, I was down with wexkel11 and spent the night tryin to get rid of halos
Pat
ps.. Do you want me to drop the calibration system in tomorrow??
KeflnParticipantIgnoring the water at the front and the slight halo effect, it?s a beautiful shot.
I could imagine a lot of people wanting to hang it on their walls :D
steelydanParticipantNice shot Alan.If thats “NOT” in POTY…..Can only imagine what we are up against
Alan RossiterParticipantThanks Pat, Kefln & John.
John – Definately not in the POTY but you know me – never one to conform. I won’t go into detail as that wouldn’t be right but I tried something that I think will attract attention, something other than what I think others will go for. Whether this means votes, I don’t know. We shall see…
Alan.
carrigmanParticipantlatchikoParticipantI like it. It’s calming just looking at it..
I don’t think the halo is too much of a distraction, but it would probably be better without it if possible. Is the halo visible on the full size jpeg from the camera or is it something that became apparent when you downsized it? Did you do any sharpening on the shot? That could create a halo like this.
JosephineParticipantAlan RossiterParticipantAppreciate the comments. The halo came from boosting contrast and applying a light/shadow effect. The technique I use for sharpening won’t cause halos but the damage was done at this stage. My monitor needed a calibration and I couldn’t see the halo but I’ll be reworking this one based on your observations. It ain’t finished yet…
