Ideas, Inspiration?

Just wondering, who do you look to for ideas and inspiration when it comes to nude photography. Some of the photographers whose work I really like include the following (and they all have quite different styles!)

    ? Sascha H?ttenhain

    ? Andreas H. Bitesnich

    ? Eldor Gemst

    ? Daniel Hice

    ? Edward Weston

Thanks for those Thorsten. I really like the web site of Katy Taylor and she is very much on my radar at the moment. She specialises in ballet/dance based art nude and figure photography. I could spend hours browsing her portfolio. :D

Interesting you should mention Katy. She is (or was) in Ireland this week. She had been in touch with me about doing a shoot but the timing simply didn’t suit me this week. Her rates are GBP 50.00 per hour of GBP 300 per day. Had I known you were interested I would have forwarded your details on to her. She won’t be available again for some time as she is off to do some international travel.

I know it’s somewhat off topic but now that you mention it, dance, particularly ballet photography, is something I used to do back in the days of film and it’s a discipline I would like to get back into again. There are some great dance images to be found on the WWW, but one of my favourite finds is Richard Calmes – do have a look at his work. There’s an interesting video of him at work too. I’d love to know what sort of post processing he employs.

    Don’t forget Herb Ritts-

I saw a beautiful large print of his a long time ago in The Photographer’s Gallery in London-
up close, before it was framed-

Have been meaning to try my version of it for too long now…

Excellent links there gentlemen. Like Thorsten, I’m also a fan of Richard Calmes’s
dance photography, some astonishing images of the human form…
I’m not familiar with many of the others mentioned but intend familiarising myself
with their work as I’d really like to see the range of styles…

Yes, agreed! I love his work as well. Interestingly enough he was one of the first photographers whose work made a real impression on me when I first started exploring the potential of the nude as a subject. I bought his CD which goes into some detail about the thought processes he goes through in creating his work. It was also interesting to hear how he made his first tentative steps into digital imaging. I was amazed that he would shoot his subjects as a mosaic using a Canon EOS 10D and then stitch the images together to create a higher resolution image. I wouldn’t even have considered doing that with a subject that could potentially move between frames! Haven’t visited his site in a while though! Must go take a look again. Thanks for the reminder.
