AllinthemindParticipant
I took this in 2004 and was bored this afternoon, so rescanned it to see if thenewer technologies could eek more out of it. Answer, nah, not really.

RobMemberI don’t know why you’d want to eek any more out of this to begin
with Si. It’s a cracking image, lovely toning and nice uniform grain.
Nice angle too, making the reflection shorter than the subject…
If I could change one thing it would be to clone away the curved top
edge of the mirror as it gives the impression of a small antenna coming
out of the top of her head…
Aside from that, love it.Rob.
AllinthemindParticipantseanmcfotoMemberI don’t mind it. It easy for digital only users to forget the joys and pain of film. It’s not like you could look at the film and say.. ‘Oh….’
Love the tone, the composition is fantastic, as is the models pose (being so natural looking). Maybe this might be easy on digital, but I doubt it.
Therefore, I bow to the master and wonder exactly what it was that could require more eeking than this?AllinthemindParticipantI was just seeing if a better scanner and later photoshop would eek any more detail or tonal range. Here was the one I edited in 2004.
Interestingly, I used a tighter crop and darker tones.
SiThorstenMemberAside from seeing if technological advances can help us squeeze more out of ones previous work, I think it’s a great idea to go back and review older images with a view to reworking them. I think in photography you never stop learning and I bet most of us look back on our old work with a hint of “if only I knew then what I know now.”
Nice shot by the way. I liked it when I first saw it and still like it. It’s so totally natural looking.
LucParticipantI must say that I am not too surprised that the newer technology did not eek more.
I prefer the second one, which is your first one, for the darker tones and somewhat prefer the crop one the “new” one.
I had already remarked that our “processing” of a picture changes with the time, depending on our emotions, perceptions, new experiences… well, that can seem normal that we evoluate, but it is interesting to see how.Concerning the photo; the model pose is so natural and beautiful and the grain of the B&W… it is so great, I just regret that I do not shoot on film anymore, I will take it back quicly !
