Waiting For Santa

I took this shot of my son last night in front of the fire waiting for Santa. Should I bin it or print it. All comments or suggestions welcome, good or bad.

Print it large!! Excellent first post, love the colours, the composition and expression.

Read the post on imbedding images into the thread and you’ll get a better response. Go to http://www.photobucket.com or http://www.flickr.com or others like Imageshack to dump your images so that they can be linked in the thread as a full image.

That’s definitely one for the printer!

I like the mood, and the warm firelight.

If you want some feedback to improve, since that’s this C & C bit is all about… you could try to get some more light onto the stockings and hearth so that it would look more like how your eye sees it. You could use bit bits of card to reflect the firelight back into the scene. Or aim a lamp at them – move it closer or further away til it looks good!

    Welcome aboard! Great first post!

    Hi All,

Thanks for the positive reply’s. I am walking on air as this is the first time that I have shown a photo in public. Reflecting the light back onto the stockings and heart is an excellent idea, I have quickly tried it with some white hardboard I had in my shed and it makes a huge difference. Unfortunately my model is not in the mood for sitting tonight.

I can’t seem to get the picture into the post, only the link even though I have read the gallery how to, if somebody can help it would be great.

    Thanks again

    Stephen,

First off welcome to the site !!! :), I hope you’ll enjoy it here. Looks like you’ve gotten stuck in already which is great.

I’ve fixed your post. Just do an ‘edit’ on it and you’ll see that I just put Img tags around the link.

    Very Christmassy photograph !

That’s great. Good on ye for giving it a go so quickly!

I must add as well, that your picture is presented really nicely with the tasteful framing.

    Thanks for the support Guy’s.

Thanks for sorting out the image Mark, I was putting the Image tag after the link only.

    Thanks again,

    Hi Stephen,

Glad you got the posting sorted. Now that you have it presented and gotten some advice on lighting I’d just like to add that there’s a little negative space to the left of the fireplace. Once an image is embedded it’s easier to C&C. If your model is up to it and you get the right reflected light try to avoid this empty space to the left.

You’ve got me going now – I’ll have to try this with my own monkeys.

    Alan.

If you can bribe your model perhaps try a shot taken a little to the left, so that your son is in the same position and slightly more full face, and the fireplace is angled, if you get what I mean at all.
I hope the grate cools down a bit before Santa attempts to land!
I love the soft shadows and the whole mood of the piccy.

I like the atmosphere and the “tradition” implied.
The pose of your son is good, but one can think that he is being bored from waiting… maybe I would try with only one hand below the chin.
