Negative Scanning software

I have just started scanning through LOTS of rolls of film, and being new to this I am using Silverfast ai v6 which came with the scanner Plustek Opticfil, 7200i. I was wondering what software do other people use/recommend ? How would you rate this silverfast against the competition ? Any tips from knowledgeable film photographers/regular film scanners would be helpful. I have to say being immersed in digital for the last couple of years I had forgotten the range of film compared to digital – after working on film scanning this last week I am even tempted to invest in a good film body and start to do some work that way instead. Cheers for the info.
stcstcMemberSilverfast ai is one of the best
I use it with my epson V750 pro
did it come with an IT-8 transparency reference slide.
the trick is to use a clever calibration. and use th batch scanning.
Silverfast ai is quite clever, but takes a little getting used to.
You want to do all your sharpening etc in silverfast.
and do multiple passes of each scan
gerardkParticipantHi – the software was bundled and it didnt come with a reference slide – though It does have an option for It-8 which I will look into in a while. Havent gotten as far as multiple passes or batch processing at this point just getting my way around the programme. Thanks for the info I wouldnt want to invest the time to learn this unless it was one of the good ones – cheers.
MartinParticipantHave used the HP S20 in the past and now an Epson V700 (mainly scanning colored slides). I have been using Vuescan scanning software from http://www.hamrick.com for years on the HP S20 and it really gets the best from the scanner over the supplied HP software (loads of configuration options). Have only just got the V700 so still working out which software to use with it but Vuescan is looking good on it. Seriously recommend giving it a go. You can download an evaluation copy from the site
