Landscape Composition

Hi there, compositionally wise,it look’s ok,but if it was me i would have positioned the camera to the right slightly,to get more of the road in,and bring the hedge to the left a bit.The road curves so it would bring you into the photo any way.As it is it’s all one sided if you know what i mean.Just my two cent’s worth.
I know it would bring the tree more into the middle but as long as it was bang in the middle i think it would be ok.

constantineParticipantHey Jamzky, welcome to the landscape section, good to see you posting. Composition on this one looks pretty good, my advice would be to pick up one or two landscape orientated photography books in your local bookshop, they will help immensely in your composition queries.
Another thing to do would be have a good look at past posts in this section, you will learn an awful lot from the members that post here, I know I have.
Lastly, its best that you resize your image to something a bit more managable, say 800 by 600 pixels. The image above, when opened is too large to fit on most screens.
Hope that helps :-)
JamzkyParticipantJamzkyParticipantThen I look at previous posts and realise how much I have to learn! It’s inspiring though. I’m getting hooked! When my new camera arrives as ordered I hope to post a few more informed “experiments”.
Cheers guys

Alan RossiterParticipantHi Jamsky.
Welcome to the forum. I had a look at your image. What I want you to do is look at it yourself but be conscious of where your eyes travel within the image. Does it feel comfortable? This is sometimes a good way to check the composition. I was looking at this and the main point of my sight was the road…funnily enough. But the road lead me out of the image and not into it. The tree does help to throw your eyes back into the image but apart from the clouds I’m lost. This can work but I think you’ll find through practice that you’ll notice this when looking at the view finder (note – I didn’t say through the viewfinder – compose your image within the confines of the viewfinder and see it 2 dimensionally).
It’s not a bad image at all – just don’t take my opinion as the only one. I just want to help you look at your image differently…Alan
JamzkyParticipantHi Alan,
I see what you mean as I look at it now. I naturally follow the road too. Perhaps if the tree was at the other side of the road and therefore more central, so a focal point. It’s also on an incline in the road hence the road disappears. A shot at the top of the road “downhill” with more road in view would be interesting, if the road disappeared into some trees further down, as it probably does the eye would follow it. It was a hastily taken photo but it stood out amoung anything else I took at the time. It strikes me as interesting to look at again now.
Thanks for the thoughts. Much appreciated.J
