    argue your point

No offense, but have you done any of your own research? What do you think? Does one suit you over the other? Aside from one being full frame and the other not, I don’t think there’s a whole lot to argue. Besides, there’s enough arguing that goes on between nikon and canon owners without someone stirring up s*it…

What are you using currently Ben ? What do you intend on photographing ?

I don’t know much about Canon,
but I really thought the Ds models were ‘Full Frame’-

I’ve been thinking the same thing-
I’d love to stay with Nikon,
    but there is a dealbreaker-
There isn’t a 24mm shift lens available for it-

    With Canon, there’s a choice of 2-

The last thing I need is to have to learn new buttons-

Sorry to contradict, but is the new D3 not full frame. If you have neither cannon or nikon,IMO opionon,i would go for the nikon, for starter’s it’s nearly 3 grand cheaper, but it all depend’s on the lenses you have,if i had a collection of cannon lenses,i would be sticking with them, etc.i know it’s down about 8 million pixel’s but do you/we need 20?.I dont know much about the new cannon, but they reckon it’s better again, than it’s predecessor.I have seen pics from the new D3 at very high iso’s and there is literelly no noise at all.Confusing or what, mind you it’s a choice i would love to have,

    Sean.

Aha – the D3 IS full frame. I did make a mistake tho – I read the post quickly and did not register the “S” in OPs original question – 1DS Mk III.

Both cameras are full frame, but serve two completely different purposes.

I think Ben needs to tell us much more about his photography likes/dislikes before anyone could correctly recommend one of those cameras over the other. One a super fast low light wonder, another a megapixel monster dripping detail from every shot. ( I’m not sure about the Canon, just thought I’d balance out the statement).

ok, I’m not so sure about my information,
    but who cares-

I use mostly wide angles, when I need to make a point-
I use longer stuff as well, but I need quality wide-

Canon’s shift lens is already performing below the resolution of the Mk II,
as far as I can tell,
so the extra resolution of the new body is maybe something of a waste-
contradictions welcomed, but that’s what I’m reading.

I’m in a minority here, so I’m used to being ignored-
but if Nikon had a 24mm shift lens, I reckon I’d be more than tempted to stay with them-

    Nikon? You listening?

    ok, I know its a sports/journo camera,
or that’s where its being pointed-
but it does look like a stunning piece of equipment,
and the pictures I’ve seen off it so far really seem special-

Or am I just falling for the hype?

To make a decision for ye it would help to know what ye do…? From your myspace site
it looks like you are into gig photography… so something that works really well in low
light and at high ISO’s would be of an advantage…! From what I have seen of the D3 it
looks amazing at high ISO’s but from what I know there aint many of them around yet
and I would wait a while before purchasing anything that hasn’t been put through the mill
    by photogs etc….

Personally if it was me I would go for the Canon mainly because I already have a large
amount of Canon lens and accessories and also because thats what i am familiar with…! If
the focusing is up to scratch it may be a good option for you as well as with a file size of 22
MP compared to the 12 of the Nikon I reckon that when scaled down it will easily outclass the
    Nikon in the ISO race…!

Alternatively wait til maybe April next year as if the rumors are true there will be a 5D MKII
by then…! I could be completely wrong…!

I suppose at the end of the day it depends on what your customers/clients prefer! Would they be happier with an enlargement originating from a the Canon camera or the Nikon camera?
