Inspired by PeteMcD’s water post, I decided to have a bash myself. Unfortunately the shot didn’t come out nearly as clear as Pete’s but sure I blame the camera

Anyway would appreciate to hear what you’s think.

    Cheers

Nice attempt Brian! You’ve got the timing sorted! Those crowns are really nice – I didn’t get any of them. I think it just needs a little more work with the lighting and the reflections. What sort of set up did you use? Maybe try shooting from a lower angle to get smoother reflections. I’ll not lie, I did some work in photoshop to smooth the backgrounds. They’re nicely presented in the frame and I like the rich blue colour.

Lighting consisted of a halogen lamp staring directly down into the basin ( very simplistic) and I definitely agree that I should have had the camera on a nearer level to the basin. Plenty of room for improvement.

As far as the PS work goes, I added the blue tint with the saturation controls and then overlayed a desaturated layer which just boosted the contrast a bit.

In anyways just some camera messing while I was bored.

You did well to get the water frozen without a flash. Flash def helps!

yeah I only have the on-board flash and I didn’t want to be dealing with the hassle of waiting for it to charge and all that jazz.
Cheers though. I’ll definitely have to invest in a proper kit in the future.

Take a look at Pete’s setup here, he describes how to do it very well.
    Have fun.
