The moon was amazing a couple of nights ago, I have never managed to
take a decent shot of the moon, any hints?? This was taken using a 500mm
plus 2 x teleconverter, wedged in a tree and underexposed by about four stops,
the stars are a ps addition.

“Your mission shutterbug is to go where no man has gone before” very ‘Star Trekie’ I like the addition of the stars

you should use this as a background to any castle images you might have. Put an overall night tint to everything. It looks very good.

Thanks Pat! and Irishshaqua good idea about using as a background,
I thought it looked a little “empty” without any stars.

I’ve a bunch of Bigma moon shots too Noely. I’ve also done some with a 2X, but it was very soft. Here’s an old one (back when I was having lines in my images from a fault in the 20D).

They both put mine to shame, all down to the lens and of course
the expertise using it :) I shall keep trying.

I wouldn’t say that.. all it needs is a boost in levels/exposure and some sharpening. Don’t be letting yourself down like that!

Thanks Sean! I havnt mastered levels yet always seem to go
over the top and end up scrapping it! Sharpening also I gave this
a slight sharpen but obviously not enough, but I will keep at it.

High quality pics from everyone there. Problem is, its threads like these that put the wee idea of ‘buy a 500mm lens” into my head.

    But this too shall pass!

I was looking at taking a photograph of the moon a few months back and Noely gives you the tip here with his comment and photograph. As impressive as a photograph of a full moon is the contours of the craters only show when the moon is not full. I used a Bigma with a 2x converter (or could have been a 500mm reflex with 2x, I can’t remember) in the dusk. I’d seen another idividual adding a gradiant background which helped emphasise the moon so I followed suit.

    It’s all a learning process.

    Alan.

Thanks Alan, Lovely shot and I like the background it does seem to emphasise
the details, good comment on the bottom of the print love it :)
