What is the best printer to get if I am planning to sell prints of my shots?
Sorry for the vague thread but just testing the water and looking for recomendations…constantineParticipantGood A3 Printer like the Epson 2400 or the like should suit your needs. Call over to Oscar in ”Mr. Frame” in behind Western Motors out in the briarhill ind. estate.
He does the whole lot, he’ll also let you hang your stuff on his walls, help you sell. Tell him Ken sent you. He’s sound out
randomwayMemberThere are a few threads in the Printers section, you can get a bit more info on specific printers… I started with ordering prints online, if you don’t have that many orders, it’s fine. I bought an Epson R2400 for a start a few months ago and I’m experimenting with different matte papers at the moment. The printer is fine, the quality I get is superior to the online prints and all my customers were VERY happy with the prints so far. I manage to produce a mounted a3 print at around 10 euro (or less I think), which is perfectly good for me.

He’s sure to do you a good deal if you tell him your coming from PI here.JodyParticipantWould you not think of getting someone else to print for you? When I sell a print I get it done in Whelan’s Cameras in Limerick. They produce excellent quality and very good quality paper and will print up to a width of 42″ (not including a 1″ border on each side, so they could print up to 44″). And they do all that for a very very good price! I honestly don’t think it would pay me to buy a large format printer….especially when you consider the hassle its saving me
stcstcMemberthe most important thing with printers, is actually the inks and paper used
when selling prints, longevity is important. ie that the prints dont change colour or fade in a short period of time
epson has their K3 inks which using a good quality lustre paper will give you a good lifespan a matt paper would make it longer
canon have their chromalife inks that have similar results
HP have the viera (not sure how to spell it) inks
as far as owning a large format printer, if you actually look at the running costs you could be very suprised. Also if you factor in your time for travelling to the print house etc you might be supprised at how much you could save if you do a decent volume of prints. also the convience of being able to print whatever and however you want is so much less hasstle.
